It was a very enjoyable race to watch, with the rain making it unpredictable. Go Tander & Mconville.

In a change from recent times, it was a really enjoyable race. Its still a 7hour sprint, rather than a measured enduro, but still, go Holden! Shame not to see Murph/Skaife get up there. Amazing drive, robbed by the safety car. |

The 888 Vodaphone team is switching to Commodores, so both Lowndes & Whincup will be driving Holdens next year. Dr Terry |

Just a quick technicality question, probably of Dr Terry. Asked out of general interest.
Am I correct stating that a Holden didnt win Bathurst 2009, but a Commodore did? What Im getting at is a Commodore is a GMH (or Holden Motor Company?) product but not technically a "Holden" as such. If Im correct, the last Holden to win the Bathurst race was a HT GTS350 in 1969, and the last to race there was a HQ GTS 4 door in 1974.
Also I heard the ABC touting yesterday that this was the first time a GMH product won Bathurst from Pole since Bruce McPhee in 1968. Rubbish. Brock won in 1979 from Pole, and im sure there are plenty of others. I think Kelly did it in 2003 also?

did you all see the biante series prior to the race? hows that HO copy of tilleys, 2mins 30sec lap or sumfin similar, now for a big fat overweight unbraking and primitive machine, thats pretty hot laps by all those old clangers..but..where was all the early holdens?? only saw a HQ and an LJ?

Im sure that they are badged & marketed as a Holden Commodore. where Holden is the brand. The current name of the company which makes them is GM-Holden Ltd. Off the top of my head Im not sure how many Holdens had started from pole & then won, but Mark Skaife/Jim Richards did it in 2002 & Greg Murphy/Rick Kelly did it in 2003, Im pretty sure that P Brock did it in 1984 as well as 1979. One thing thats not often mentioned about McPhees effort in 1968 was that he was also the first car to lap in under 3 minutes. Dr Terry |

I thought Jim Richards Sprint was more impressive. I thought they didnt race HK-HG because of the Saginaw. HQ race because they can use a Muncie? There was heaps of HQs in the Sunday televised race. _______________________________________________________ If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords? |

The Biante series is real rich mans toys stuff. These things cost a mint & are allowed many freedoms. They are NOT raced as they were in their era. Group N is closer to how they were raced. Good examples are the gearbox & brakes. AFAIK the Biante cars are allowed BW Super T-10 boxes & late model multi-piston calipers & huge disc rotors. Even though none of this was in use back then. Group N cars are not allowed these freedoms. Dr Terry |

Thinking further about it, it would probably come down to availability. If freedoms for gearbox, engine and brakes were allowed there is no way a HK-HG wouldnt be as competitive as a 67-69 Camaro. These Camaros and XW-XY Falcon shells are easy to find compared to Monaro shells.

As i recall, brakes were original sized rotors but modern material, same with pads. Tyres are still cross-ply reproductions. Its not all about rich mans domain. I used to have my HQ tuned by Brad Tilley and his son at their workshop in Brookvale. Sure they do a lot of classic race/targa style cars, but its just a workshop, and Brads your typical workshop owner. Grumpy more often than not. Haha.
I know how they make their money though... i dont go there anymore. |
