You do not need to fit the tank or the hump to put the 10 bolt diff in, there is plenty of room in there.

You probably find thy wanted a certain clearance, more than required, just in case. You might find that if your shocks snap the diff might hit the body when you get air born or somethng like that.

You actually need the hump for the optional 12 bolt in HK and HT 1837 from what I have been told, but as Warren says the 10 bolt clears it by heaps.

Have seen plenty of Monaros dropped on their guts with both 10 bolt and 9" diffs, does not seem to be a problem.

Yes, but maybe not if its lowered heaps. If you are worried find a HK-HG with a 9" (there are heaps of them around) and get underneath on a mechanics trolley and have a good look. You can always make up extended bumpstops if its close.

My HK Monaro racecar had a 9-inch & we had no dramas.

If you look at a 9-inch housing & a 12-bolt housing side-by-side, you will notice that the top of the Ford diff is flat, while the 12-bolt has a pronounced peak which is probably why they added the floor hump.

You would have to wonder why so many HK/T/G s got the hump, yet so few 12-bolt installations exist. Maybe the 12-bolt was originally scheduled to be a more regular production option than it was.

Dr Terry.

Doc, I always wondered the same, and the thought that crossed my mind was that maybe they were thinking that the series would get a much bigger engine at a later date so would need a 12-bolt. The one thing that doesnt make sense though is why not do it to all the cars, not just those scheduled for a Salisbury? GMH installed gearbox and diff humps for all of the SA export coupe bodies regardless of driveline (ie one size fits all). Surely itd have been cheaper and easier to make them all the same for local production?
