http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HQ-SANDM...RCH:AU:102#ht_500wt_1182This looks a little suspect..I may be wrong but... non matching chassis numbers and tags are off the vehicle.. All GTS/sandman parts were removed in the 80s.. :) I could be wrong but it looks like a case of lets offload tags with a body no one will notice... Isn't that called RE-BIRTHING ???????? Shame shame

if you look closely at the pics of the van you can see the original chrome yellow comming through, but who can tell that any old holden hasnt been rebodied at some stage, legally or not, you have to remember you could, back then buy a complete car/van/ute ect in parts, the bodys had no ID, the chassis had no numbers stamped. it was very common practice in the 80s/90s to strip a HQ/J/X/Z of all its GTS bits to make a quick buck, you could get $500 to $1000 bucks for the parts where a wrecker may only give you $200 for the whole car. Re-birthing & re-bodying are different things, re-birthing is an attemp to conceal the original vehicles identity for financial gain & re-bodying is to repaire or restore a vehicle to its original condition using another vehicle that has been legally aquired. Back in the late 70s when i did my Panel Beating Apprenticeship, we did heaps of HQ change over replacement rails, we never worried about matching numbers then.

Changing the chassis is ok, what would you do with it if the original chassis was fully twistted and bent and totally unrepairable... you have no choice but to change it.
Its just not worth as much as one with the matching rail and ADR tag..

I remember we replaced the radiator support panel on a XR GT Falcon a local one owner car, and forgot to remove the ID Plate before it went to the Tip. (WHOOPS) And when we told the owner he wasnt the least bit worried, he knew what he had he said. Would be a different story now!
