All original HQ auto utes that arent floor shifts will be column shift trimatics. The only 2 x HQ 350 powered utes built were both T-bar TH400. It is possible to also fit HJ-HZ column shift TH400 into HQ.

Semi shooting in the dark. I think now upon re-reading he means its a column 3spd manual.

cross member, yoke, driveshaft length all the same, youll have to change the spigot bush in the back of your motor, then just the obvious things like clutch pedal, manual columb and gear shift linkages

It all bolts in too. Just use an external transmission fluid cooler and run new lines.

Also bush in the back of the flywheel is only for 6cyl auto, V8 doesnt need it.

When you get the column auto steering column make sure you get the rev-netral switch with it, plugs should be in the harness for it.

Just leave it manual?

My first HQ Kingswood was 3speed column shift manual. I loved it. Spun up a brass knob on the lathe for looks too, hehe.

Take off, two quick shifts and cruise around in top. Youll be fluent with the shift in a week. Just replace the linkages on the end of the column ($25, easily obtained) and give it a go. If you really dont like it, then do the swap as detailed in previous posts.
