I have restored several cars in my lifetime and am currently in the middle of doing another one.

I have to ask the question. Why is any car company albeit trim, wrecking yard, mechanical, in Victoria so poor for customer service? Is it cause I live in NSW or is it indicative of all auto retail businesses in Australia?

If so, I would like to start a star rating, like when you but a fridge, to indicate their performance. I know ebay does it for customer service for buyers and/or sellers, why not for anyone else?

I think I will start the ball rolling with Eastern Auto Upholstery and give it a 2/10 rating or 1 star. Anyone else want to comment???

Sign of the times maybe.personly havnt delt with eastern auto ,but have had apaint job done recently and i dont think they pride themselves on thier work. I think we are hitting a skill shortage and a skilled (experienced) people that know old classic cars just dont exist. Maybe only fellow fastlaners. Its hard i know ,have faith try somewhere differnt -- never give up . cheers keeo

I have pride in my work. Spend most of my hours making new panels for vehicles that were originally hand built, or owners want new custom hand built panels. The cost of getting a vehicle restored, rebuilt, remanufactured and customized can take thousands of man hours. Times that by an $80 p/h cost, and the costs get out of the reach of most people. Unfortunately some places charge for this kind of work, but dont produce it.

I think the best way to approach this is to ask around, ask businesses if they do classic or if not who they reckon would be good, thats how I got on to my painter & trimmer. Most panel shops I spoke to said they werent into classic cars but gave me a name or two. If sellers on ebay are near my area and I like something about their car I ask them who did the work. Most people will help, but then again I live in a regional area.

Thanks for your honest comments. I realise its word of mouth or print advertising that does the trick but sometimes u have go outside this circle.

I dont want to sound 2 harsh on Eastern Auto Upholstery or offend fellow car enthusiasts in Victoria but its just my general perception.

When I got into restoring my car I really had no idea who was the best to use for outlay work. I quickly realised that generally the best mechanics in town know the best engine builders and know the best panel guys who also know the best trimmers. They are the best because they are fussy and wont let any cowboys work on their own restos, hence they use each other for all their work. These guys may cost a little bit more than other people but they are certainly not extravagant and for the workmanship you get its a no brainer.

P.S Maybe weve got it different in gods own...

I own a trim shop in Dandenong, without trying to blow to much smoke up my own ar$e, we keep 99% of our customers happy.

http://www.facebook.com/photo.p...594754324&type=1&theater Here's a quick link to a customers reaction to an FB retrim we did recently on our Facebook page.

I'd be happy to try to help out anyone who wants to talk to us.

Cheers
