New Street Machine mag has a little article on SA and their struggle for racing facilities. They have a consortium with the money to build a motorsports park, with drag strip, race track, jetsprint boats and other stuff.

Recently they were declined the land that was once offered to them. Seems the SA government is convinced that having a place to race INCREASES acts of hooning, claiming that they learn "dangerous" new skills and use them on the street.

What ... the .... hell.

Pretty much the whole nation is behind getting kids off the street and onto the track, and these morons are saying no, thats worse. What aree they going to do, ban motorsports? But no, they love the Clipsal 500 because of the money it brings in, and because this consortium is private, the government won't have their fat fingers as deeply in the pie.

Pathetic.

Was thanked: 2 time(s) in 2 post(s)
In Canberra we had a drag strip that was almost but not quite on the airports grounds so no noise problems there. It closed shortly after the airport was sold to a bunch of money hungry $%^&s although I dont know whether that had anything to do with the closure.

The old strip is still there intact and un used. Successive ACT oppositions have made it an election promise to provide us with a new dragstrip and all have broken the promise when they get elected so it doesnt matter who the poor ACT residents vote for because the overpaid Canberra councillors (AKA ACT MLAs) all poo poo the idea of a drag strip. I dont vote in the ACT because I moved over the border to NSW in 1996 partly because I dont believe that city councillors should be paid as state politicians.

When I worked at the Geography department of ADFA (the Australian Defence Farce Academy) one of the acadimics went on sabbatical and studied whether building a new drag strip would increase or decrease hooning. His study found that it would increase hooning and of course he got TV coverage to spruik his findings to all that would listen. Maybe he is the cause of Adelaides problems getting a drag strip.

Ill get off my soap box now.

If thats their reasoning, then surely gun clubs must be removed, because they teach people to use firearms. Thats more dangerous knowledge than knowing how to get off the line quickly.

Cars n guns. The gun owners are very political. Always were. Especially after 1996, that just stirred up a hornets nest.

The next dilemma for us is KRUDD PM. If this Honorable G..se signs the ETS stuff, say by-by to V8s, cars older than 10yrs, only one car per househols and hello Toyota Prius.

Be still be silent...die. Was the old motto. How tame are we car owners ?

Maybe they should have given the paperwork to the barmaid, she could have gotten the Premier to sign it whilst she was on his desk!!!
