Hi there Looking to rebuild the front end of the G. Looking for opinion on polyurethane (Nolethane??) vs rubber bush kits. Car isnt a race car (especially with the steering!!) but it's got nice usable grunt from the 308, 5 speed gearbox and the LSD rear (3:1) I like good handling cars and don't mind a firm ride, but I don't want my teeth to fall out. Thoughts anyone? If youre not racing it and jsut using it to cruise go rubber. I have nolothane and the ride is a lot firmer. Rubber is cheaper too

Jeremy, dont even think about urethane. It does have its place but that place is not in the inner pivots of an HT/G front end. Use factory type neoprene rubber, its cheaper, rides better & it lasts longer.
On another note, I see one of those links had all the ball joints & tie rod ends etc. pictured. Its not good practice to just replace all the front end parts just for the sake of it.
The original Australian made (Holden or TRW) joints are much better quality than the current Asian stuff on the market. Its better to thoroughly check out your current front suspension & steering linkage parts & only replace the bits that are worn. Trust me, a 30-40 year old genuine Holden joint will most likely outlast many Asian brands. Ive seen so many restos where the owner has just replaced everything only to find next rego (1 year later) some bits already are worn out.
I prefer good 2nd hand genuine parts to many new Asian replacement items.

On my EH I went all rubber on the front end, and Urethane on the rear leaf spring shackles and pad mounts. If it is old or rare - Cut it! http://www.ehlimo.com.au/ |

Thanks for the advice everyone, looks like its rubber for the front end then.
I hoped youd pick up on my subliminal question Terry :)
With all of the joints, I suppose Im looking for excessive movement, really crushed bushes and perished rubber?
Is there a brand or manufecturer youd recomend for repacments - I assume trying to find decent second hand stuff would be rerally difficult now...

jeremy, go the rubber, less road noise too
as for brands, go for mackay rubber they are the best, its what i always use, i think mackay do most (if not all) the rubber replacements for the old cars anyway
