Thinking of purchasing a VE (2006) Calais V. It is immaculate one owner with the books and 20,000kms 3.6 V6. The seller has offered it to me for $29,000 however it is interstate and I will have to register it in NSW which will cost around another $800 plus S/D

Just wondering are these cars really any good and wether it is worth the money?

The owner paid approx $60,000 it in Sept 2006.

just make sure you always carry a fully charged battery pak in the boot, they need jump starting quite often, and pray the thermostat never fails, as its major job to fix..

Mine is nearly 3 years old now. 87,000km on it.
Never skipped a beat apart from 3 things:
1. Radiator cap was leaking - replaced at the 75K service.
2. Front swaybar was loose & chewed out a rubber bush - fixed at 60K service.
3. Aircon stopped working - light wouldnt come on, and it wouldnt blow cold - just like a no-gas situation, but it had a full charge. Got the computer re-flashed & it cured it.

The build quality isnt real great on the early ones - ive had lots of trim bits come adrift, and even had the roof console fall out on a rough road. The entire dash is put together like those kids "snap together" model kits.

Weve got over 20 of these on the fleet, ranging from V6 Omegas, to 6.0L Calais Vs. In the most part theyve all been very reliable, but there is a common thing to be careful of with the V6 - keep up the regular services, as they are prone to sludge buildup, and keep the coolant fresh - they have coolant leaking issues.

Only 1 car on the fleet had a battery issue - the alternator wasnt charging it, and the light was on - but he kept driving it... (duh!).
It actually required a BCM replacement - these ones dont run a traditional regulator - the BCM controls the charge based on the demand.

I have heard of another one (friend of a friend) that suffers a random flat battery symptom, and once jump started, the issue vanishes for weeks, if not months, before sneaking up again. I drive mine daily, and have never had a battery issue.

I would quite happily buy my one at the end of lease (only weeks away), but I wouldnt pay the asking price for a new one - even though a number of family members have spent big $$ on new VE SS-Vs.

Cheers,

Mick
