With my HG monaro dash, there are some light scuff marks on the black face of the tachometer. Is there a decal that I can put over this or would it be easier to try and find another face to replace it with? I know there is a decal for the speedo conversion to km.

Also, is there anywhere to source the small plastic blue bubbles that sit in behind the dash on the main body (assuming they are some kind of illuminator) which all have burnt through.

Cheers

There is a km/h conversion sticker, butyou would be hard pressed to find one these days, I do know of some NOS speedo fascias in km/H only, but these are not for GTS dash.

The lamps are white, they have blue lenses in the dash.

Had a quick Google for a HG tacho dial/face decal, not much joy, aye.

What about if you strip yours down to the face or get a dead tacho, either way take the face to a decal printer and see if you can get a batch of tacho face decals printed up. Should just be down to a scan and a bit of a photoshop to clean the image up.

Bung em on ebay and more than get your money back... just a suggestion.

Warren,

Yep Im after the little blue plastic lenses but I havent been able to find any. Ive heard you can get some kind of condom for these that must slip over the top, might have to go that way.

80569K,
That sounds like a good idea, although these are only a 2-3 light marks and hopefully when the dash is sitting back in its surroundings I may not even be able to notice it. I might try a little light cut and polish to see if that will improve it first. I have had the dash all re-calibrated etc so Im a bit hesitant in pulling anything off if I can avoid it lol.

Thanks for the input guys.

I would be super careful with applying an abrasive or polish to the gauge face, the paint is mighty thin and matt finish. Maybe talk to an instrument repairer, there would be tricks of the trade.

If you feel like trying anything try on a another gauge from the same year(not a rare one)from ebay or the wreckers as they are the same materials that were used,I found with HQ gauges you just look at them and they are stuffed. But it is better for the pros

Hg Lover

Who and where did you get your gauges calibrated?
Do they also repair gauges?

Cheers

If anyone can get their hands on a conversion decal or even a speedo with one fitted i would be very keen to reproduce it.

Cheers

Which model are you after in particular, or are you interested in any model?

I grabed an EJ speedo with one on my father last time I saw him, for the daughters boyfriends car, but it is hard to read.

Hi Roy,

Photo Electric Services in Toowoomba, QLD.

Im not sure of the exact details of what they did, I do know they pulled apart the tacho and speedo and calibrated them, as well as checking the other gauges (temp etc).

As to repairing gauges, I ended up buying a VDO gauge to replace my old fuel one (apart from the fact Im using it for LPG) I think it was cheaper than repairing the old one, and they fit straight into my HG monaro dash anyway.

Warren I would be keen to get hold of any conversion decals. I get asked for them all the time. But never be able to get hold of a good original or NOS for a sample.

Cheers

Next time I am at dads place shall see what he has left. I know that he re callibrated instrument sets and put the sticker on, then would just change the dash in the car, then calibrated that one and set it up for the next time he had one of those come in. No sure if he has stickers left or just the re calibraded instrument sets.
