Belmont, Kingswood & Monaro - Horizontal bars are silver, verticals black, silver outer. Premier & Monaro LS - Horizontal & vertical bars silver, silver outer. Monaro GTS - Black treatment to all bars but silver outer. SS & Sandman - Similar to GTS plus black outer.

HQ SS grille is the only one black all over,
HQ Sandman grille is the same as a HQ GTS grille ,black bars and silver outer .Kingswood badge fitted in the center where a GTS badge would be on a GTS grille.
Find a SANDMAN expert to be 100% sure

Just on this subject, and a little off subject - why were the mounting tabs on Premier and Monaro LS positioned differently from Belmont, Kingswood and Monaro. Yet all grilles will fit into the opening but tabs wont align. Export Chev (Statesman) fits in twin headlight Premier, Monaro nose cone but tabs dont align. Also fits into single headlight Nose cone and tabs do align. Odd because Export Chev (Statesman) is a twin headlight nose cone. So this tells me that there were two pressings of the twin Headlight Nose cone.

Guys, HQ parts catalogues state SS and Sandman are the same. HQ Production option Availability also lists XX7 as blacked out grille. I also have a HQ XX7 Belmont van production broadcast sheet that lists 882 under GRILLE, which is the same as SS has (last 3 digits of the part number). Purple HQ XX7 van on HQ brochure has a fully blacked out grille. So I agree with Dr Terry.

So by going what OZCHEVY has said, a HQ Premier grille is not interchangeable with a HQ Kingswood? Surely this defies any kind of logical sense???

I find this difficult to believe as well. Ive swapped many Premier, Kingswood, Belmont & Monaro GTS & LS grilles over the years & have not seen any different in the position of the mounting tabs.
Ive got a Premier & Kingswood here at work & a quick measure says they are the same.
Dr Terry.

I have done the same thing Terry without any problems either. Although...
"Belmont, Kingswood & Monaro - Horizontal bars are silver, verticals black, silver outer."
Are you sure this is correct? I have never come across a grille with this combo. It would be fair to assume that Belmont, Kingswood, Premier and LS all have the same coloured grille considering they have the same 2813762 part number.

I noticed the part number being the same is Les post & I havent had time to check the parts catalogue. In the flesh they are different, I just checked my 2 cars & they also appear that way in the sales brochures.
If you have a look at my 60 Year book (pages 50-52) you can see only horizontal bars in the Kingswood & std Monaro pics but in both the Premier & LS pics the verticals can clearly be seen.
The mystery deepens.
Dr Terry

We will be making early next year the following grilles complete with chrome moulding. The only problem we have is that we have what we think is a GTS NOS grille which has a black centre , silver outer and two silver vertical lines each side of the centre bar where the badge attaches 2813762 (Belmont Kingswood Prem , LS) 9928882 (SS, Sandman) 2813764 (GTS)

I Agree, Les just make them and people can color them however they want.Even if they buy a secondhand original, they would still paint it anyway,I did.

Lol there does appears to be more questions than answers here! Whatever colour they come out in, ill buy one, paint it black and red then claim it was a dealer optioned super sports special edition :-)
BTW I bought a HQ grille about 6 years ago from Rares when they were still in Preston, Vic, were these NOS stuff or an old production run?

Further to Dr Terrys post...
GTS grill was all black centre including the central horizontal bar and the surround was silver. GTS grill was black centre with silver horizontal bar and surround. SS and Sandman were all black but the central horizontal bar was silver.
This is seen in the brochures and on surviving original examples. I have brochures showing the two different types of GTS grills, one with a blacked out central horizontal bar and the other with the central horizontal bar silver.
