Hi, can you guys help me with a car I have found that looks like a GTS it has the following numbers on tags:
I have very little idea of pre 90s Holdens and would appreciate anybody's thoughts or ideas.
Some of these numbers are a little worn so please forgive any mistakes!

Paint 568 15894

Eng L31
Tran M40
Axle GV2

3/74
AHQ125475

VIN 8237TD806917Q

Thanks Heaps...

As Al says, except GV2 is a 3.36 Salisbury.

Also:

BODY number will be 806917S.

Chassis number will be AHQ12457S.

VIN will be 8Q37TD806917Q.

The only bit that I dont like is an AHQxxxx chassis number on a 3/74 built car.

Its only important if youre worried about numbers, but obviously the chassis is not the original. An AHQxxxx chassis number belongs to a 1971 HQ, not to a 1974 GTS.

struddy if as you say you dont know much about early holdens then its a big ask to take on a resto...

my advice for what its worth... if you love the car and want to keep it... then resto it but do your homework first... join a local monaro club the guys wll be only to happy to lend an ear and give some helpful advice..

if your hearts not in a resto then just sell it to someone who will do it justice...

I agree with hqgts ,its a big job and can get very difficult(knowing when to stop?)and DONT try stuff on a car like that ,only do what you know you can do and save money for the pros that you need ,some work is better left to them.do a little bit each day so you can do it well without cramming in as much as you can,and also loosing your interest.
and yeah join a car club definitely.

join a club yes, but i would wary of certain clubs..

you can always sell it to me? i have a spare methanol sniffin 540 cuber and glide, and 32" long 35 spline summers bros axles with billet housing that will slot straight under those beautiful flowing rear quarters of the HQ coupe..

I innovate, never imitate..

DR T... the reason I asked is that in struddys list of numbers he supplied he quoted

3/74
AHQ125475

which i took as him reading it off the compliance plate... as he said he didnt know much i doubt he would have even found the chassis rail stamping... hence my question...

If the chassis no. is DHQ12547S instead of AHQ then it would probably be the correct one, as Syd had been around the clock so to speak by then.

Post up some pics of your progress if you keep it. Always good to hear of another coupe being saved.

cheers Leroy

As Leroy has stated from that build date it should have a DHQ chassis in it.
Leroy I am not sure if there was actually a AHQ 12547 chassis made the Highest AHQ I have so far is a
AHQ1209xS number and the next I have is a BHQ 1360xS number.
So somewhere in there they changed from AHQ to BHQ.

The bottom line of all this Struddy is that the chassis number on the build plates should match the actual chassis number on the rails, if the are still the original ones.
The chassis number is actually down on the top of the chassis near where the steering box bolts on.
I can post a picture to show you where to look if you need it.
The only other thing I would be looking at on this car is the actual body stamp number.
Being a Sydney built car it will have a number stamped in to the firewall above the heater box.
I can post a picture to show where to look for this as well if needed.
Cheers Paul.

Thanks Paul,

I have checked the tags and chassis number is "DHQ****" and matches the stamp, looks like all numbers match and original 45,000 klm.

Thanks to all posts
Very helpfull guys
