Has anyone on the site done this conversion with the factory wiring loom and big rubber grommet?

If so, where did you cut your hole and run the wiring?

Im sure mine's too close to the exhaust, but buggered if I can work out where to put it closer to where it would have been in the Commodore without making a dogs breakfast out of the air plennum or the under guard void.

Any ideas (especially with pictures) would be great.

I have done it. Mine does not run a heater, So I used the heater blanking plates and cut the big hole in one of them to run the loom through that.

but if you are running a heater... gee I dunno..

Yeah I thought of that, and in the future I want to stick A/C on it and then it will be fine.

But I live in Canberra, so if I dont want to lock it away for 6 months every year Im going to need a heater!!! :)

hi i think i have spoke to u before iam on the central coast and doing same conversion i have just drilled and mounted computer annd wireing i can take some photos and send if u want .also have you mounted your gearbox yet i got xmember from v6 conversions and haveing dramas fitting it what did u use

Hi Peter

I got the car almost finished.

So Im only tidying it up before rego.

Some photos of where youve drilled your hole will be good.

I mounted the computer between the glovebox and passenger side of the car up high under the dash. But the hole for the wiring was already drilled - too close to the exhaust I think.

The crossmember seems to be a factory one with some extra steel welded to it.

I have a supra 5 speed. Would photos help you on that one?

Looks like im going to have to pull the motor and box to fix oil leaks and replace bellhousing/clutch setup with a Dellow kit.

Gday Jeremy/kanks/elderbrock1/all,

What alternator mounting have you used on your conversion? My original VS setup hits the rails, dummied up a Rare spares Torana one also hits rails. Obvisously need one that sits higher up, but off what? Do the original HT/HG 253/308 brackets mount on EFI heads and fit an VN alternator? Yes unlikely but thought Id ask the question as I dont have access to any.

I had the same problem. I messed around with all sorts of brakets, Torana, Commodore early holden... you name it... I tried it. Anyways... it turns out the original VS one fits.

Bolt the alternator up without that long thin bracket. Then once you have it in and it is all looking OK. Hold up the long thin bracket up to where it should go. Then measure how much you have to cut off. (I think it is about 2 inches) Then cut it off, drill a new hole, cos your going to cut the original hole off the bracket, then you should be good to go.

You will need to get a slightly smaller fan belt than the original one, but it will work no worries.

This is what I did and the Alternator never hit on the chassis rail, and I thrashed it pretty hard.

Got the grinder onto it and extended the slot a bit, should work, just got to find the right belt. Still not a real lot of clearance though between alternator and chassis rail. But will see how it goes.

Hi there am currently in the process of fitting vn efi to my monaro have encountered the same issues as you with alternator coil etc.battery has been relocated to boot.am hoping you have completed drilling of hole for computer harness and could possibly email me some photos

Hi guys new at this forum so please be gentle iam after any information or photos relating to locatiion of grommet for ecu harness 304 efi into ht monaro have seen several in the heater blank bit of an eyesore in my oplnion looking for an alternative any advice would be greatly apreciated ray

Hello gmh069, I have added link to my shed at oldholden.com and uploaded a few pictures of the location I have run loom through firewall. I have run loom next to the heater box and it is tucked away out of sight reasonably well. Hope it helps you decide where to run yours.

hi steve thank you very much for the pics looks much neater than others i have seen could you tell me if you mounted the ignition module in the engine bay or in the cabin inside the firewall.did you tackle the wiring yourself if so how hard was it ive been told there are only half a dozen wires you need to join back into the ht loom sounds to good to be true.thanks ray.
