Is a starter motor for a Toyota Corona XT130 1.9 Starfire 4 the same as a Blue motor VC-VK?

I think the starfire one is heaps smaller, but it should fit. Not sure if itll have the grunt to crank the 6cyl though.

The starter is not a 4 to run a 6. It is a 6 to run a 4.

A guy at work has a 1.9 Corona and needs a starter motor, and no-one knows how to help other than $365 for a new one from Bursons. He paid $400 for the car, so $365 for a new starter is ridiculous if a second hand $30 Commodore VB-VK one will do.

I dont think itll fit then. I think the 173 lost its back 2 x cylinders to make the Starfire hence room is tight. Thats the reason why the oil filter is rotated 90deg. I think youll find the 6cyl starter will hit the engine mount.

I believe that Byron is correct. The Starfire starter is a fair bit shorter than the 6 cylinder item. I used a Starfire starter on a red 6 but the other way around you probably will hit the engine mount.

Having said that though you could probably use the brushes out of the 6 cyl starter in the 4 cyl starter.

A tape measure will confirm before you purchase whether the starter will fit.

You may be able to fit the 6 cylinder starter by removing the engine mount for extra jiggle room when installing.

If it works just think of the extra power boost from the bigger starter motor when turning the key with the engine running. Youd almost double the cars horsepower 8-)

No guessing here now. Factual information.

Will a VB-VK 6 cyl starter bolt onto a 4 Cyl Starfire engine? YES OR NO?

Greg has the answer that you need however if you dont want to spend $85 then you need to measure the Starfire for how much room you have for a longer starter motor and then measure a red engine starter motor.

I have mentioned that they fit the other way (Starfire starter onto red engine) so the space issue should be the only thing stopping you.

HTH, Jim...
