Hi all
Looking at Series 3 2006 GTO Signature. Man/ Stanav/Sting red/ HSV sunroof. Low Ks. Immaculate. Any opinions on price would be appreciated. It is listed for $68k and I think it is overpriced. Late Monaros/ HSVs seem to be sitting on carsales/ carpoint for some time.
Cheers
Nick.

Footnote: I spoke to a mate who owns a Honda/ Mazda dealership and asked him for an opinion and he told me they are tanking in value and are on the nose in car yards. He said he would probably let a deal go elsewhere rather than get stuck with a GTO, even if it is a signature.

I would like to sell our VTII/ LS1 R8 Clubbie before or after we get another car.
It has 12 mths rego/ sting red/ Manual/ 65000Ks/compendium, build sheet etc. dealer serviced/ stock standard. No plates: VTR-008 very good cond. We bought new.
Please PM me if interested.

This is where reality bites.

A 2 year old prestige car is worth around 50% to 60% retained value, tops.

An HSV GTO new was $83,990 full tilt retail, over 3 years ago.

Unless it was the best example on the planet, you would have to think that it would be worth $40K to $50K, so $68K is a bit much.

At the moment, 2nd hand prestige car values are plummeting faster than belief in man-made global warming, so you wouldnt consider them to be a good investment.

If you want a HSV coupe I reckon a GTS is the go. Or buy a Monaro - I saw a immaculate V2 a few months ago in Devil/black, manual 18,000kM for $30k in a yard. Car was as new, not even the drivers seat leather was marked.

BTW Nick, what is a "Series 3 2006 GTO Signature"

A 2006 GTO was part of HSVs Z Series, their equivalent of Holdens VZ. The Series 3 V2 ceased production in 2004, to be replaced by the Z Series.

Hi and thanks for the responses.
We used to turn our cars around every two years. In 2005 we sold down our businesses and although we were still co-owners of the businesses we could not purchase cars using an ABN. Apart from that we have been completely happy with the VTR8. Make no mistake they are a really good model. Ours has now done 65oooK. We still like it and will sell it reluctantly. This model GTO ( to be correct: 2006 HSV COUPE VZ Series GTO SIGNATURE... sorry Terry.) is the only HSV model which has excited us since the VT so we thought we would have a bit of a look around for one.

Terry as I understand 70 were made and 13 of them were manual. Is this correct?
I think we would keep it for some years so we would like to find a good one. We also like sting Red.

Byron, after some discussion with Ben I have zoomed in on the GTO Signature because, as Ben mentioned , it is stacked to the roof with goodies and if I get a manual, would be one of less than 20 cars.

To "We Wreck 81837s only" (I would rather adress you by your first name if you could be courteous enough to provide it) thank you for the info. Do you know which colour it is? I think of a Coupe4 as a Rex on steriods. The only thing I dont like about the Coupe4 is the Auto trans.

What are your thoughts?
Cheers
Nick.

Cool. We all have our preferences. I like the Monaros better because they are Monaros, and why I own a CV8. I could have had a GTO for the same money but its not a Monaro hence no go for me. I like the V2 GTS because of its engine, and the fact it at least is a GTS!

Just wondering what parallel though you draw between an RX7 and a Coupe4?

Hi Byron and Frank
Byron, REX to me is WRX sorry.
Frank I like the idea of a Coupe4....But.... I know you will call me old school....but I still prefer manual cars.....My(read Joannes) R8 is manual and I wouldnt have it any other way. OH and we are talking about my better halfs daily driver here and her last three cars have been red.
My daily ride when I am not riding a motorcycle or driving an old school muscle car around is a (very exciting) 4.8 petrol patrol.......hmmmm....nice.....

nup, 40K for a 06 GTO with under 7000km on the clock? I think that you are dreaming! 60K + is more like it. But then again as its Devil Yellow which was like the blue.

The two most popular colours are black and fusion

I was like tou too Nick with the manual thing. Until I bought the CV8. I was looking for a manual. At the time (late 2005) the going rate for a manual V2 or V2II was about $38,000 (or about $30k for an ugly colour like hothouse, flame or whatever the purple colour is called). I could have even had a brand new auto V2 III CV8-R for $42,000 as a run out, but didnt buy it as it was an auto. Then a auto V2 in silver with black trim got traded at the local Mazda dealership. I went to look at it simply out of interest, and drove it as a test drive. I got it for $29,000, 29,000kM still with new car warranty. Now I wouldnt have a manual one, and if not for the V2 I would never have bought the Cross8 as they are all autos.
Also from what Ive seen in these, the best sellers are the yellow, red, silver and black and the other colours seem harder to sell or sell for less $. The pick of them all would probably be Devil.

Thenew Monaro is out of "fashion" now and they are getting cheaper. I went looking for one of four, Series I hothouse, Series II CV8R, Series II impulse and CV8Z fusion, all in Manual. Some were hard to find, like the CV8R, but there were plenty of others.

One that I looked at in Sydney (my brother looked for me) I was the only person who ever looked, he eventually decided not to sell for what I thought it was worth.

Eventually purchased a well maintained CV8Z, it looks and drive like a new car, for the same that I offerd the fellow in Sydney. If the fellow wants to sell he will have to come to the party, if not there will be others. I still see CV8Z in simular condition to mine for 10k more and just know they will be holding onto them for that.

As was told tp a friend when he went to unload a low milage VR SS in the early 00s, "anyone who can pay top dollar for your car would buy a new one, and the guys that want to buy it just cannot afford it". Not many people out there with this sort of money that are going to buy a second hand car privately, buyers market.

"Out of fashion". Warren, that sounds like the HK GTS was for many years. History repeating again...

If I could choose right now Id buy a red V2III CV8-R auto or a V2 GTS. I wouldnt have a VZ because of the Falcon-like bonnet scoops and the lack of a boot. From the rear though a VZ CV8 or CV8Z looks very nice though, especially with the big twin exhausts, and they look really good in that light blue-grey metallic.

Hi Guys
Thanks heaps.
I went into this with you in detail on the phone the other day Warren. Thanks for the discussion...I am learning heaps as I drift towards buying a car.

This is evolving into a good thread. I hope some of the comments can also help others who might be buying or selling. I think I will start a separate thread om the market generally in the next day or two.... In the meantime I might keep my question and comments on- topic.

On our VT2 R8 (in the photo on P1 of this thread)...anybody got an idea or comment on value????

Thanks
Nick

Just an update.
I bought it. I am really happy with it. Had it for for three months now.

Last of the HSV two doors. A run of 70 cars. ALL Sting Red with Black front and rear accents. 57 autos and 13 manuals. This one is number 65/70 and manual (interesting point: HSV did a reverse sequence with the numbering i.e. #70 was the first car produced and #1 was the last).30000klms and immaculate.

I bought it with only a few weeks left in warranty so as soon as I got it home I went over it and made a small list of stuff which I thought should be considered for warranty. I thought I would get the run around but the opposite happenned. Couple of the repairs got referred to HSV for approval. The repairs were approved. The support and service I got from my local Holden dealer at Maclean NSW and HSV in Vic was excellent. Even got a follow up call from HSV. So if anyone from HSV reads this THANKS!

Cheers
Nick
