My parents old 1970 HG bought by them in a used car dealer in Parramatta back in 1978 had the non reflective black letters on a mustard yellow BKR-697. According to the stencil under the bonnet (and the rust) it was sold new by a dealer in Balgowlah.

My 1992 Falcon which is still wearing its original plates from Wagga Wagga is SHH-*** by mid 1996 my 1995 Falcon was wearing UHM-*** from Albury registry and by March 98 we got UYU on the ute. In early 2000 the Commodore got WLT-067 from Queanbeyan and a short time after that they would have gotten to YZZ-000 before going to those plates that just dont look right.

I remember a mate of mines first car in late 1981 being issued with LMF-*** from Queanbeyan as he said it meant "Loud Mouth Ferguson"

The ACT with its smaller population and its now long gone ability to let you keep your existing plates on an unreg car for up to two years before you needed new ones had a smaller turnover so they started with YAA-001 and ended in YZZ-000 (they did not use plates starting with Z for obvious reasons) then they went to YAA-00A I still dont understand why they didnt just go to XAA-001 as that would have been the logical thing to do.

If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you.

During the 1980s there was a red 4 door HQ Monaro that lived around the Sutherland area NSW that had the number plate MUF-069.Always made me laugh.

Confusing me is my grandfathers HQ, which although a 7/71 build it was not first registered until 19 April 1972, as NSW EBI-249. The dealer was Les Vagg in Pennant Hills. Although my grandfather traded in an EJ sedan, I dont think he kept the plates - he had no attachment to that sequence as far as I know. Did they re-issue the earlier plates in the early 1970s?

Dads HZ GTS had JTP-948 on it, bought new in 77 or 78 from Kensells Holden in Tamworth. I watched the RTAs make-a-plate site for years and finally managed to grab them a couple of years ago. Now on my HZ tonner. Bastards gouge me $60 a year for the privilege though.

Yes Phil, they also re issued plates, my dad had DQV on his HQ, These were issued due to Q being used, apparently.

He wanted LCT 333 but that was already taken in 71, so back then you could order combinations.
