This is a MUST read for anyone who currently has a car on club registration or is considering doing so.

In short it seems VicRoads actually needs to be congratulated on serving the requirements of car enthusiasts. The proposal is to move to a log book permit (such as available in TAS and SA I believe) for rather 45 or 90 days. There is also changes to Street rod inspections and classification of replicas which I have not read.

VicRoads is seeking discussion on this topic so please email them with support for these amendments as it will allow more people to enjoy club registered vehicles more of the time.

Damn straight! I have been pestering Vic Roads about this for years but thought the way the world was going, anything encouraging people to keep old, inefficient cars would have been laughed at.

Lets hope it comes in sooner than later, this has been going on for quite a while. I know lots who are hanging out for this. Should be the next best thing to Sliced Bread.

First of all dont judge me as being negative..this is just a thought..With all the talk of "climate change" its no secret that certain government bodies have suggested the removal of older type vehicles from our roads. Say our classics had club rego, and down the track the govt decided to cancel club regos and refuse to give us the option of normal state regos, think of all the older type vehicles they would have a record of(without having to spend hours searching the computer for) and be able to get us of the road in one hit. I think the log- book system would be great but do you trust politicians who may have alternative notions? Since when does State or Federal polies give you something and not expect something in return THREE FOLD? Just my thoughts. AL.

Its a fair point Al and no doubt will be raised during a proposed meeting in Feb but could you imagine the public backlash? This is how many car clubs you would be up against.

And lets face it, who wants to mess with the Australian Armoured Vehicle Association Inc, they have tanks! The ASRF alone would have hundreds if not thousands of members so it would be a brave government to tell all these people they cannot drive their cars anymore.

If the scheme is introduced however, I would certainly expect to be pulled over on a regular basis for log book and roadworthiness checks. Certainly waiting to see how things pan out.

just put full rego on your cars, i know it costs, but in the long run you are much better off.

even at $600 a hit, full reg means there is no stress, no log books no clubs, no ASRF dudes to deal with, just jump in, turn key and drive anywhere, anytime, anyway with no bull.
simple rule is that our hobby costs, thats how it is, always has been, always will be, but we will spend $1500 for a NOS heater tap for a HK thats probably stuffed anyway, but we wont pay rego?? most of us have 1-2 cars, paying rego wont kill us, and if we grumble about the $600 a year we pay here in VIC, dont play with cars, simple
fun with cars is being able to jump in and enjoy it when you want to, not join club, get logg book out, blah blah blah...not my idea of fun
wanna play = gotta pay

I innovate, never imitate..

Yes yes full reg is great but if this new scheme allows 45 or 90 days of unrestricted driving that would be more than enough for the majority of people if your classic is a 2nd or 3rd car. By being on club plates has saved me over $1000 in rego and insurance costs annually which does make a difference when your a young uni student such as myself.
