Can anyone tell me whether HGs came with tool kits in them?
Anyone have any details of them if they did??
Cheers
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy
Yes, they do get a fairly basic tool kit, but it seems to vary between cars in that era. Im not sure if this difference is from factory to factory or between early & late, & someone else on the forum will probably know more about this than I do.
From what Ive seen they get a jack & handle & a tool to remove hubcaps & wheel nuts. On some HGs this tool is like the HQ type where it is a socket at one end & the hook at the other & on other cars it is a tube spanner & separate handle. They are stored in a bag made of trim material off-cuts.
Maybe we should continue this thread with members posting pictures of what tools they have in the boot of their original (unmolested) cars.

I have to say that I have never seen one in a car, or at the wreckers when I was doing mine up in the 80s.
I beleive that the kits may have been something somone ordeed, but they definately were not the normal thing.
Barry Black and several others have been researching this, there is a beleif that they were in cars, and differed depending on engine. He has shown me three different tool kits for HT/G, one for L6, one for 253/308 and one for Chevrolet. The reason is the sparkplug spanner end to the wheel brace.

Hi Warren. Yes, Ive spoken to Barry Black about these tools & there is 2 variations in the spark plug size (small 253/308/late 327 & 350, large 6-cyl & 307) but weve never reached a conclusion on exactly which cars got what. For example if you got the small (single ended) spark plug tube spanner, then you would still need a handle a second spanner or socket for the wheel nuts. Then there a two large spanners where one type will do wheel nuts & spark plugs & the second does wheel nuts only. Its all quite confusing. Like many things at GM-H in those days they probably made it up as they went along. Dr Terry. _______________________________________ There are only 3 types of people in the world. 1.
