Gday All
I am fitting the factory 6cyl EFI to my VK wagon and was wondering if the VK Wagons ever had the EFI fitted from factory?
I ask as I am trying to source a fuel tank to suit.
Also do they have an internal fuel pump?

Thanks for the input

Regards,
Nicho71TPI

They did, but only from somewhere between Oct 84 and Feb 1985 onwards. It was optional at extra cost on the SL & Berlina wagons.

It may be easier to simply use a VL wagon tank, from a 6 cylinder - the only real difference for you is the small ULP filler neck.

They have a low pressure lift pump inside the tank, and a high pressure external pump.

Cheers,

Mick

Hey thanks Mick.

Yer I have a tank out of a VL wagon in my posession. I just have a hesitation in mating up the wiring from the VL tank to my VK wiring loom to run the internal pump. Hence, the question to see if its viable/practical to look for a VK EFI wagon tank?

I have access to a EFI VK sedan in a wrecking yard and was wondering can I take the fuelgauge sender/internal pickup out of that tank and put it into my wagon tank?

The VL tank internal pump fuel/gauge relay is bolted in(4 or 5 bolts)

My VK wagon fuel guage sender has a "C" clip to hold it in place.

And I also realise that the EFI tank has an inlet for the fuel return line which can be remidied by a professional.

Thanks,

Also the EFI tank has an internal swirl pot built in. This is the main difference between EFI & non-EFI tanks.

Dr Terry.

Dont worry about the gauge sender - its the same value in a VK as it is in a VL, so the gauge will stay accurate with a VL tank in a VK.

You must use an EFI tank because of the internal swirl pot that Terry noted above.

If you cant find an original VK EFI tank, dont sweat it, just get a VL RB30 (EFI) wagon one (you cant use a VL V8 tank, as they dont have the swirl pot).

You can also use a VN-VS wagon tank - the benefit of the later ones such as VS, is that they still bolt up* into a VB-VL body, and they have a single, internal high pressure pump. Much easier to hook up, and the guage sender still has the same range.
*You only need to shorten the filler neck slightly, but they have a rubber joiner hose between the tank & filler neck anyway, so you just undo it like a radiator hose, dock 30mm off the end, deburr it & put it back in.

Cheers,

Mick

Hey Mick and Dr Terry thanks for the info update on my install. Yeah i thought as much as to trying to locate a VK wagan EFI tank.
I have purchased a VL wagon tank. My only hesitation is that the plug to run the internal pump (VL tank) has 3 wires running to it whilist the VK EFI tank (sedan wreck) has only 2. I removed the length of loom from the (EFI Sedan) tank to main loom as I thought I might be able to use it in my wagon.

Now for the $64 questions
So do I remove a wire from the VL internal fuel pump plug?
The plug is white in colour and oval in shape.

Or do I add a wire to the VK wagon loom? And where?

Cheers
