Hello all,
Well I decided to pull my finger out & install the new Bosch starter motor that I bought about a week ago into the VP.

I pulled out the old one (Delco) & sat it next to the new one. Well to my surprise I find that the new starter motor has 9 gear teeth & the old one has 10. I took it back to the parts place today & was told that about 1% of auto V6's had manual starter motors & Bosch don't make replacement starter motors for the manual v6 Commodores (it's only $1000 trade price for a genuine Holden starter motor).

1./ Would this be true about the manual starter motor?

2./ If it is true am I able to replace the flex plate with a different one say from a VR so that I can use the Bosch starter motor?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice, Jim...

If it is true it would be the sensible thing to do so you can replace the starter in future, but I would be surprised. Did you check with your dealer?

A good auto sparky can repair/rebuild the original motor. Its going to be cheaper than the GM, however you will loose it for a week. Bit of a bummer if you need the car.

G'day Jim, well we both seem to be in the same situation but from opposite ends (mine is series 1 v6 auto to using vp starter). The workshop manual I have states that from Vn series 2 on (up into vr?) Holden started using the Delco starters. Bosch was on
