is a intake manifold gasket on a VN easy to change? the gasket on my sister in laws VN is leaking water, any tips for doing the job?

Check out the Just Commodore website. Im about to tackle the same thing on my VS & they have some good write ups on everything commodore.

Assuming V6, not hard at all. Just be patient & remember where all those wiring connectors go!

A tip before you start - run the engine & pull out the fuel pump fuse (not the relay) this will reduce the pressure in the fuel line a bit, so theres less risk of a big spray when you disconnect it.

Also, drain the radiator coolant to about 1/2 way down the radiator, so you minimise the amount that will fall into the valley, and change the oil once youve completed the job.

thanks mick, will i need to use any sealant on the gasket or just put the gasket/s in as the are

BTW yes its a V6

My Wifes now departed VP used to leak coolant from the front of the inlet manifold near the coil packs.

Tightening the inlet manifold bolts fixed the problem in 5 minutes as they were not overly tight.

Might save you some stuffing around.


Vandals and graffiti "artists" do everyone a favour and target parking meters and fixed speed cameras only.
