Trying to work out what the decal on this battery says so it can be reproduced. Anyone got a better pic? Or any ideas? Cheers Jason |

I have images of HQs with a completely different battery to that one, so this will not suit all HQs, maybe only the early ones.

I have a GM-H photo of a purple car with the bonnet off, 308 with air no steer and the battery is white with red top, nothing like the battery here. The car is newish, radiator cap is off and there is some stain in the radiator.

The HQs i have seen used in photos were Orange and White Lucas ones from the production line, and they may have only been a certain way through production and not all through the full 4 years of production of HQ . This is the battery i think Warren is probably talking about . The battery you have a photo of there looks like a GMH Dealership replacement battery , probably a rebadged Exide i would say which is what they sold in the 90s until AC delco came on line again. But as i was not around back in the early 70s , so i would not be the right person to ask , i am only speculating from photos i have seen . www.monaromuscleparts.comEdited by user Friday, 22 January 2010 4:19:24 AM(UTC)

I recon the batteries shown in the add are "for advertising purposes only", and not exactly what dealers received. Perhaps the full-face decal was applied to cover the makers one? I cant imagine GMH producing such large decals for something generally unseen. Who would have thought wed be trying to figure out this sort of stuff 30+ years ago? |

Nicely put LHQ-253. The featured item looks to be a hybrid cross between a rubber and a poly/plastic cased battery. There was talk of batteries in HQs on here some time ago but the mystery as to when the rubber/tar tops ended was never solved. When these cars were new I can recall them having the battery that James and Warren mention. Another thing with the battery in the picture is that it has GMH on it but by HQ I am finding that only GM was used on parts and the like, the H being dropped for some reason. I wonder if there is a disclaimer in fine print on the poster that mentions that actual batteries may not match those pictured?

the same large decal battery is also featured in the 73 Accelerator magazine as a heavy duty unit.
