thinking of buying one of these, been offered one very cheap, has all its attachments & books, seen working, came from a closed down garage, but how difficult are these to use, can anyone use one? Dr Terry??  thanks Kevin HOLDEN The Great Way to Move |

Dont pay too much for it, but if it works it can be very handy in diagnosing crook points, leads, condenser & coil etc.
The tacho & adjustable timing light are handy for checking vacuum & centrifugal advance as well.
I had a unit similar to that one for many years & it was the cornerstone of my business.

main thing is how user friendly are they or do you need to undertake a doctorate in knobs??
Hows $50, cheap enough, the one in the pic went for $150 on ebay a few weeks ago, but was missing bits & the scope wasnt working.
The one Im looking at has a few extras with it, including a portable type unit...
I think it may be a good investment in the long run, as most service centres around here dont want to touch the older cars, even for a basic service anymore...

There are some good videos on Youtube to learn how to use one.
The old Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes/Tubes (CRO) (CRT) are getting a little old now, and as many of these have been used by people not so experienced in using them, like leaving the things powered on and forgetting to turn them off, many of the screens have burn through spots in them. This happens if the beam is left in one position, the electrons will soon burn away the illuminating coating in that one area. So check the screen thoroughly for this, a small bright dot is a sign of burn through, and a intense white line horizontally is a good scope when powered up.

Worth the money monaro202. I was lucky enough to buy a working ALLEN-tronic diagnostic system from a garage that closed down 2yr ago for $50,(bargain i thought) on wheels so easily moved around the shed. After i won it i had a look in the back of it and all the instructions and more were included, even the delivery check list dated 9-11-73 ! Wonder what it was worth new, big money id reckon.
