cars do sit around at holdens from time to time so build and release dates will vary. I think my GMH assembled Pontiac hung around over xmas its a 1966 with body #2 , I pulled out the original shockers which were dated 12/1965.

Complinace date has nothing to do with completion date. Compliance date is the date the engine and chassis come together, this is the date the ADRs have to comply, for example, imagine building LX Toranas around 6/76. One comes down the line, engine in and then cannot be finished till the next month due to a strike or parts not ariving. The engine would then need to be pulled out.
So completion date can be way after compliance date.
The register is is a spread sheet last time I saw it.

I have tried to access info from Holden re how many CV-8s were manufactured in 2001 and in what combinations, colours ect and the answer is "not recorded". You would think in this day and age it would be easier to access this sort of info?
Cheers, Allan
I have 250 2001 cv8s in my database. Marty

Im pretty sure Ben was promised the CV8 build records once construction ceased. Not sure if he got them. Hell post a reply here when he sees this thread eventually.
Allan, Ben also informed me today that there are 160 HJ LSs recorded with a 1974 completion date. I assume these were added to the register when they were counted off the service records, so all that hard work was already done. If that is the case there will probably also be more that like my Prem are 1974 plated but show up in the records with 1975 completion dates. So I guess the figure of 160 is a minimum.

Thats great! Funnily enough a mate who works at the local Holden dealer told me today that there were 160 CV-8s manufactured in 2001.

160 is the magical number then, maybe we can call them all "hot 160 CV-8s" and "hot 160 HJs" hahha

Byron, there there maybe some cars complianced as 75 but actually finished in 76 and some complianced in 74 and finished in 75, so there is no way of telling how many are complianced in 75 from the service records. Unfortunately many will missinterpret completion and compliance dates. To clarify this, the motor registry considers a car completed by the compliance date, which is when the engine is fitted to the chassis, and Holden has a completion date of when the car is ready for sale. Some cars sat with engines in them for periods waiting parts. So compliance but not yet completed. Warren Edited by user Friday, 5 March 2010 1:17:27 AM(UTC)

I got one. I assume it was a very early one as it had very few Prem options It is plated 10/74, was 308, turbo400 and 2.78 diff. It was Contessa Gold with chamois trim. It had a GTS dash but no air, power widows or steering, not even a radio.

Text deleted - see later post! Warren, I think what you stated in your first sentence is exactly what I said! Pete, does you 308 still have its original carby? _______________________________________________________ If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords? |

Yes Byron I moved on a year and thought we were looking at 75 production for some reason.
You will also need to note that Petes car is a 10/74 and therfore does not have a carbon canister. So is infact an HQ type carby rather than an HJ carby. Not sure how much difference that makes on a Quadrajet off the top of my head.

Mine is an 11/74 so has no canister either, but having said that all HJ 308 commercials other than those sold in NSW should have HQ carbs as they had no canister either.
The main difference (apart from the number) is the later HJ carb has a port on the back for vacuum advance for the auto, and the fuel bowl isnt vented to atmosphere like a non-cansiter HJ or HQ.

Allan
I deleted some text from 5 posts above, rather than fix it there I put in a new post so it doesnt get missed.
Ben got back to me today and it looks like 160 x 1974 HJ LS is the number. The 160 were counted off the build records with 1974 completion dates, there is a gap in production at the end of 1974, so applying logic anything after that gap would be a 1975 plate, anything before would be 1974. I suppose it is possible there are more that waited for a long time like my Prem, but hopefully it isnt too many if any.

Speaking of 1974 plated HJs having no charcoal cannister a mate has been told by the local department of transport that he has too fit one to his 11/74 HJ Kingswood to get it registered! They refuse to believe it did not come from the factory without one! There reasoning is that the ADRs for the HJ model say it should have one so he must fit it too register it. I had the same problem when getting the roadworthy for my HJ Monaro as the mechanic took some convincing that the charcoal cannister was not there from the factory.
Does anybody have any way of proving this as I can see the problem only getting bigger??
Cheers,
Allan

From memory, the HJ workshop manual supplement states quite clearly that early cars did not have them & they were to be introduced from Jan 1975.
Ill check up on the weekend.
