This ute did not have any 202 badges on the body, but had the 202 Rocker Cover decal and 202 casting on the block, would not have a clue about the engine number.

Mick, they are easy to pick as they have HQ style chassis numbers ie AHGxxxxxA instead of HGxxxxxA. HQ commercials werent released until 11/74 so they were in production for a long time after HQ release.

HQ commercials were released on 22/11/1971. So from the 15/7/1971 to 21/11/1971 you may of got a 173 or 202 HG Holden Ute or p van.

Andrew Streetneats HG had a 202 in it when it was new, IIRC he said the salesman told his dad it was a HQ because it had a 202 in it.

Hi all, this is my first post Mick,my dad bought one brand new it was a kingswood ute in the light green hq colour,he always said never buy the first model of the new shape as they always have things go wrong with them with the new model. He sold it when i was 16 in 1980 and went and bought a WB kingswood ute.It was still driving around (In Tamworth)for a while after but disappeared 6-8 years after. Cheers Greg

I've seen plenty of 173 and 202 HG commercials made post HQ release, but only one V8 - it was a Belmont van. I know of a 253 Kingswood ute but it was built right on the changeover from HG to HQ passenger vehicles.

Gday Guys Yes as posted above the HG Ute I still own was sold new by Zupps Mt Gravatt in September 1971 as a HQ. Build date was 7th month 1971. Its now fully restored to concours condition. Nearly all back to stock specs except driveline is now 383/glide and nine inch. Yeah - 202 and drum brakes with three speed column shift just wasnt overly exciting. The car now lives with me in NZ. The full build up of this vehicle is on my website - www.streetneat.com . The sales brochure is posted there too. Body number of mine is AHG 45425B. The 202 engine prefix was GL*****. Hope this helps |
Cheers streetneat -Andrew |

My mate has a late HG Kingswood V8 ute in his farm dump, I grabbed the details off it but didn't have my camera and I have lost the bit of paper with the details. I'll chase it up for you Byron next time I'm down his way. |

Would be great. Rare beast. If you can get them off grab the ID plates. If you are willing to part with them that is a set my collection is missing! On a HG just use a centre punch and hammer and the big rivets let go easily. |
