Yeah I bet you would see some dodge setups! And yes mixing and matching wouldnt help. I just noticed on mine that the cable runs pretty close to the extractors and I it gets pretty hot on the cable. So I just reckon that when you put a new clutch and throtle cable on it makes the whole ute feel miles better to drive.

unless you are doing an anal restoration where you must have everything better that when it left the factory....GO HYDRAULIC...nice light clutch and generally wont break. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

ive seen some dodgy things too, heres a pic of a cable clutch conversion, the previous owner thought itd be easier to fit the cable to the pedal using a D shackle rather than getting a correct pedal

the result of this dodgy set-up was bugger all clutch travel making the ute difficult to drive, a new (correct) pedal made a HUGE differance

that one is probably done because the cable isnt right and his pedal was sticking up so he has extended the cable to bring the pedal down....shackles are very usefull for mechanical conversions...so is waterpipe and large cable ties....i prefer fencing wire myself.. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.auEdited by user Tuesday, 9 March 2010 1:44:01 AM(UTC)

Hmmm, not too sure about the D for the cable. One thing I wouldnt recommend is sitting at the lights and absentmindedly putting your foot behind the clutch pedal and pulling it back up towards the dash. I did that once and un-hooked the cable off the pedal. It didnt make for the hole shot through the lights thats for sure!

If drivability is more important than originality would a hydrolic conversion be the way to go?
This needs to be a car the missus feels comfortable driving too

setting up a hydrolic clutch will be expensive, but the clutch will be heaps lighter

crs do a compete set-up for $475 see here http://www.rodshop.com.au/clutchkits/index.htmpersonally id stick with the current clutch set-up, id lube it up and put a new cable in it, the clutch will always be slightly heavy, they were like that from new, but not extremly heavy as you describe

Il try and fix it first but its good to know theres an alternative if the boss complains.
