It is pre HJ/LH as the Holden emblem is of that era.

Warren is on the money. Also the part no. on the box is incorrect.
The part itself is from an HT or HG Brougham (or any other HT/G with the clock option).
These cars use the same instrument cluster housing as the GTS but have a clock fitted in the spot where the left-hand gauges minor fit. The right-hand hole is filled with this emblem.
The part no. is for a GTS temp & oil gauge unit. Maybe someone has fitted an oil & temp gauge to a Brougham & then put the old emblem back into the gauge box.
Dr Terry.

The backing plate would tell you ,with all the information above it would have to be the same as the gauges, hence the old gauge box swap is my bet too.Havent seen one before, but not really been looking for one ,but seems funny never to have seen one?

thanks for the info... what you are all saying ties in.... the date on the back is 10/69.... i was initially thinking it could be a HQ statesman emblem, primarily because it looked similar to the HQ dash emblem but with the lion instead of the "Holden" script...... i hadnt seen one in a car before and started looking at the shape to try and get a handle on which dash it would have went in.. thanks again for the input

It may seem a long tale but that could the clue.Around the HQ era the Lion had a tail on some items and no tail on others, such as the wheel caps.It seems strange that the actual product doesnt have a part number moulded into it somewhere, even it is very small.

HQ wheel caps were all short tail and the long tail emblem change was from HJ onwards... there is no part number on the back just the maker VDO, the date and some other non descript markings

Like stated long tail is HJ onward the pictured lion is short tail(long tails are vertical)HQ shares the early lion.
