Just looking at this Q and noticed it has a 200k/hr speedO, Im guessing thats wrong? Is that right "Only 200 ever built" ? Why is this car $9000 more than an immaculate cyan blue show quality 350 car on the same site? Does Barbados green magically boost up the price? Last question, I think this car has been for sale for many months, is $56,000 waaaaay over priced? The condition looks like a 7 or maybe 8 out of 10 to me just looking at the photos. http://australianmusclec...s_monaro_350_3?query=hq

RigPig,
I dont think Holden made a 220 "km/h ONLY" HQ speedo, only the combination mph km/h type. So it is possible that all HQs after a certain date (May/June 74?) had the one type of speedo, 200km/h in km only. I had an April 74 HQ and it still had the combination speedo then.
I think the engine number QU00033 is about 3 years too low for that 1974 Barbados green HQ 350? The owner may have sourced a QU motor but from a 1971 HQ. Although Im just guessing, who knows? Maybe that is why it has been for sale for so long.

200 built isnt quite correct. 212 are known to be built, plus another small number of autos from the Elizabeth plant at the end of HQ construction (somewhere between 0 and 10 maybe extras).
Engine number will be correct for an Acacia Ridge XW8 Kingswood. Remember the only 350 powered vehicles Acacia Ridge built were XW8s, and they only built 32 of them. There are a couple of gaps in the engine numbers, probably due to some specials being made for influential people at the plant eg 350 in ute or something like that. I think this car is in the high 20s in the XW8 build sequence from Acacia Ridge.
Personally I think $56,000 is pretty much on the money, maybe the fact it is green is what is holding it back. Remember there are people out there that think an SLR5000 is worth that sort of money, and a HQ XW8 is a performance and collectability level above that again. An SLR5000 is the rough equivalent of a 308 HQ 4 door GTS. Or it may have a decked and restamped engine number, or have obvious accident damage? You wouldnt know till you inspected it.

The reason its not selling is cause theres no tyre on the spare wheel.

Thanks HK1837, seems like the engine number would be more than likely ok. A couple of others have said the same thing. I was just reading a forum about this car, looks like its been for sale for a couple of years. Hey Rhys, my GTS4 is a 7/74 and it has a combination speedo. Maybe it was a late model Acacia Ridge thing . . . who knows. "I would never want to be a member of a group whose symbol was a guy nailed to two pieces of wood" (George Carlin)

those anomalies occur due to people bagging other peoples cars therefore rendering them virtually unsellable,(some on this forum may recall a certain HK 307 that this happened to a while back)i know quite abit about the history of this particular green HQ car and believe me, half of the things that have been said about it must have made up a a monaro club meeting. mike selby from AMCS also originally put quite an unrealistic and unobtainable figure on that car quite some time ago therefore virtually rendering it unsellable from his site as well.

I havent spoken to Mike yet but tell me what you know about it. Whats the condition of the paint and body? Original paint with a couple of touchups? or is it a full respray? I can see 5 minor things wrong like master cylinder, rooftop aerial, air filter has been cut, extractors . . just minor stuff really, but as for originality Im still doing my homework. Well if you were going to be really picky there is another 8 things that i can pick as non original but it doesnt really matter and its still a nice car. The speedo is an interesting one as it seems to have the correct needle but on a 200kph face. Did anyone else notice that the passenger side mirror mysteriously appeared or disappeared? If your looking to buy a GTS/4 mine will still be for sale until sunday if your interested http://cgi.ebay.com.au/H...Cars?hash=item3a583cdb6c

What a shame I love this car and have seriously contemplated adding it to the collection. Now I am too scared. Not that I care if its not totally correct, just that spending good money on something that might not be what it is annoys me and I do not know enough to be able to make a educated assessment on it. I hate false advertising, tell it as it is. It has been there for sale for a very long time which is probably a good indication that the sale price is a little high.

Dunno mate Too much innuendo going on. No one ever tells it out right they just take little potshots at cars. Is this car a matching motor and gearbox with the original shell and chassis numbered car? Simple questions!!!!!

Does anyone know what the anomalies spoken about on another site actually are? If it is engine numbers that dont match that wouldnt necessarily put me off. If it is two cars welded into one that would be different. It isnt my favourite HQ on the market right now but it is up there. For what it is worth, I dont think Barbados green has aged as well (as a colour choice) as a lot of other HQ colours. I do think it puts people off a bit.

i would agree that the colour barbados doesnt age well, my HQ is exactly the same as this (without the 350), when i brought it, it was badly faded and looked terrible, i re-painted it and it looks really good now, barbados is my favorite colour
