Hi there

Is there a way of telling the diff ratio without removing the diff? I have a very noisy diff I want to replace with second hand one, was hoping to pick one up before putting the car out of action. Its a standard Salisbury, 72 HQ Premier, 202 Trimatic. All stock standard.

Thanks

Matt

standard salisbury...

by the front of the diff there is a steel ring around the front by the diff tailshaft yoke....it will have 3.08 or 3.55 stamped in it, if you are still unsure the crown wheel will have the numbers stamped in it,so take off the back plate and spin it around untill you see the ratio numbers (2.78 3.08 etc).

Stock standard HQ 6cyl Premier will be a banjo. So it must have been changed at some stage.

No, nothing changed, realised about an hour ago I had had a brain fade. Its a banjo. 3.35 from what I can read of the yolk plate - that sound right?

Yeah, check & its 3.36 for sure. One on sale on eBay, says its out of a HR - they would be the same diff, yes?

the centre will be interchangable as long as it has the correct splines in the diff centre...hq should have coarse spline axles and all hr were coarse spline....only way it could go wrong is if someone has put hx hz fine spline centre and axles in your hq..
