I can't believe that the police are being blamed for trying to uphold the law. Yes it's a tragedy that an innocent family has been killed but it's not the cops fault.

It's the fault of the dropkick driving the stolen car and the legal system or magistrate/judge that did not lock the loser up for a very long time the last time that he crashed a stolen car.

And the passenger of the stolen cars mother blaming the police well is she as dumb as the criminal?

I feel for the victims and their families here (who justifiably are lashing out but at the wrong people). The poor buggers killed, the police involved in the pursuit and the owner of the stolen car.

At least the crook won't do it again and it's somewhat comforting to know that he was conscious after the crash (and arrested at the scene by police) so he lived long enough to know what he had done.

Make the penalties more severe for car theft and they might just reduce the crime.

Its truely sad to see an incident like this. The driver got what he deserved but its a damn shame he killed others in the process. The police aint to blame here, its the d*ckhead who stole the car and broke the law and if his family cant see that well maybe they deserved to be in the car with this young tool too.

Just watch what the media does tonight, it will be about "cowboy coppers", irate parents and whatever else it takes to sell papers and get people fired up enough to watch the current affairs shows.

Once again they lionise the idiot and dont listen to what the person on the street thinks. Jim you, us and any other sane person knows the story here and as you said the courts have let that deceased family of three down and the cops will get the blame even though they have probably dragged that pr1ck into court a dozen times.

Nobody wants to take responsibility for their own actions anymore, if the mongrel had pulled over when the cops first put their flashing lights on and had the guts to face up to the consequences of his own actions none of this would have happened period.

You wont see that in the headlines, aye.

You guys are spot on the money. We live in a scapegoat society and the media have a lot to answer to, for encouraging this.

So they want to terminate polie pursuits? Thats like saying "hello, drink & drive buddy, then speed away from the RBT because the cops cant chase you"

What a bunch of morons. The cops need to pursue these people to uphold the law. If they dont want police chases, let the cops shoot out the tyres, or better yet, shoot at the criminal driver.

What a thankless job the cops of today have. They have to put up with this sort of scum, as well as all the drunks, druggos & fights on friday/saturday nights, and get raped by the media to boot. No wonder they have to spend $$ advertising for new recruits.

Lets hope some of those journalists need to call the police, but then again, maybe not, because all theyll do is complain that the cops took 2 hours to get to their non-urgent break & enter, because they were attending the scene of a molested child on the way there.

Cheers,

Mick

She said that her daughter would have been so scared and just wanting to get out of the car. I wonder why said daughter didnt reef the handbrake or knock the car out of gear or both. The cops would have then been able to catch up and stop the chase.

I drove past the scene on my way to work from my Parents house this morning. Sad to see the memorial to the family that got killed. Thankfully there is nothing where the stolen car came to rest except oil stains on the road. Somehow I dont tink that a memorial to him would stay intact.

He was due to appear in court soon for his last efforts in a stolen car so he had not been sentenced for that one yet.

Why was he out presumably on bail?

gtrpu, i feel sorry for your mates family.
this is so ridiculous, clearly it was the 23 year olds fault for stealing the car and speeding in the first place. That link up top said the cops were performing normal duties when the car "sped past". If he had just driven past normally the chances are the cops wouldnt have taken any notice. who runs from the cops anyway? life isnt need for speed where you try and outrun everyone. what a moron. i cant believe that his family have said he was scared and when young people get scared they run from the cops. im a young person and thats pretty dam far from how i think.

I wouldnt place to much creedance in what his family have supposedly said, the media just loves to sensationalise/distort this sort of thing. His parents would be in a real emotional bind, can you imagine their predicament. It will most likely be a long time before they can get past the denial stage.

Gday, first off I used to agree with what you guy are saying but lately as my family grows and I get older my opinion on high speed police chases has changed.

Now Im in no way defending the piece of scum that caused this devastation or blaming the coppers for doing their job,but......its recently occurred to me that these high speed chases are a lose-lose situation.

If the coppers do manage to catch the scum then its usally because the scum has crashed or flogged the car till its stuffed, the owner of the stolen car gets it back but its rooted, the coppers who have risked life and limb have got the scum but the courts will slapp him on wrist and let him walk whilst you and your family are put at a huge risk for very little gain.

So who wins, not the coppers, not the general public and dare I say not the scum because if your dumb enough to keep stealing cars then your not smart enough to stay out of gaol for long.

Also its not that hard to secure your car these days against common scum. With basic club locks and immobilisers being pretty cheap insurance.

I would hate this to happen to me or anybody I know, the risk far outways the chance of putting some 20cent crim in front of weak courts.

your right, after all the hard work to catch the scum the courts slap em on the wrist, and say "your a naughty boy"

but they cant stop the chases, what message would that send out?, just speed off man, theyll have to stop!!!

yes its hard on the familys and the passengers and there familys when things go wrong but fark em, DONT STEAL CARS AND RUN FROM THE COPS OR YOU WILL DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To put a little Twist in this story and many others , what if it was a Cops son doing the bad , they seem to get off ........ Its a bit like when a cop shoots someone in a domestic situation no- one really hears about it .

BUT if a cop gets shot , fark its all over world news and so on ( big Funeral etc ) what Is the difference between a cop and a kid or any citizens life that make the COP a better person , I mean look how corrupt they are along with the MEDIA ........

Can any-one on this forum say they have not broken the law? If ya say no you are a Liar!

and yes I feel for the people involved.

On reflection - maybe a little harsh - but you probably only need to go through a few and theyll learn (but then again youd think people would learn about taking drugs to asia - oh well some people you just cant reach)

I think there is a big difference.
A cop getting shot doing his duty.
And some toss pot trying to attack someone, gets shot. well he should of knowen better than to f with the police.
I cant belive people these days. thinking they can just disobay a police instruction.

after reading all the replies in here i decided to make a ruling>>
not the fault of the police, the fault of their superiors, and inventors, as the innocent deaths may have been avoided.
use some of the resources they waste, to create a laser guided tracking device, that is shot at the veehickle, then the police can back off, and watch and wait untill the crooks go where their going, and stop, might save a life?
cheers

it was but yesterday, i thought myself a fragment, quivering without rythum in the sphere of life.
now i know i am the sphere, and all of life quivers in rythmic fragments, within me!

How about a device that fires a concentrated beam like a laser pointer but strong enough to upset the ecm in car they are chasing. Surely somewhere there must be a boffin working on an idea like that.
