Hi All.I have a windsor I have to put in a capri. I am looking info on the engine. I.E. What its out of , date of manufacture and any other info.

Engine Number : GH 198890
Thats all there is on the engine number.............

Castings : OD8
: C9OE 6015

I have so far found that its possibly a 302 Windsor 1969 build , maybe from a fairlane.

Can anyone shed some more light on this for me ?

Cheers
Doc

Its a 351 Windsor.
C = 1960S
9 = CASTING type.
O = FAIRLANE OR TORINO
E = ENG
The GH 198890 is USA or nonsence.

Engine number on a 1970 Windsor (as opposed to a 1991 onwards 5.0W) is stamped on a flat surface between the back of the inlet manifold and the top of the bell housing.

That is on Aussie delivered ones anyway. USA ones might be different.

jim,
they all have the number there regardless of aussie delivery or not, remember they all came from the US in the early days and had yank number stamped where you say. when they were fitted to our cars, we put numbers on them in a more visible spot as its a major pain to get to it where you mention it is at. you will find that the numbers on a 351W are either GL and GJ(i think GJ is auto from memory)numbers are alotted to aussie cars for manual and auto and this number is stamped directly behind the alternator on a 351W on the block inbetween 2 casting dots and the number runs vertically inbetween those dots.

doc,
if its a 351W that was in an aussie delivered car like a ZC fairlane or XW T coded car, it will have the number on the block behind where the alternator bracket bolts on. it will run vertically down inbetween to dots cast into the block.
if its 302W it will be where jim says, at the flat down the back and where you say, or it can also be on a raised pad also behind the alternator, just depends if its ZB or ZC or ZD, wierd, but all over the joint with these old junkers!!
i think you around the cnr from me in melb, happy to come round and show you some stuff on them if you like
