Hi, i just got 40 thou removed from my 307 block deck to up the compression to 8.9 to 1..( 76 cc heads ,40 thou overbore ) and have an issue... My intake manifold has a slight gap at its uppermost mating surface with the heads intake port surface. It is 0.5 mm approx when it is just resting on the oil valley rails / heads.. Will the intake gaskets ( felpro ) take up this amount of gap ?
I was told if i got my heads angle milled that i may need to mill the manifold to fit, so i just had the block milled.. The gap is with the heads bolted on, but not torqed down and the manifold just sitting on top of the rails...will the bolt down take up some of this gap ?

Or am igonna suck gaskets in to the head ports ?

Thanks for all help :)

You can mill some of the intake face, but I reckon you've killed the block. AFAIK SB Chev pistons only sit around 15-20 thou down the bore. Do the pistons still sit down the bore or are they proud of it?

The pistons were about 40 thou under deck height, so now sit at zero deck height, perhaps slightly proud .0005 ..i am using felpro gaskets .0056 thou i think, so will i have a good squish area ? I read abut squish in another forum.....it says squish

mmm. Not sure. Talk to an experienced Chev engine mechanic. I would never build an engine with pistons level with or sticking out the bore - I always allow for about 10 thou rod stretch.
I also don't think Aussie 032 casting 307 heads are 76cc - they sho

What is the casting number of the heads?
Also is this a stock 307 cast iron manifold 2BBL item, casting number here would help as well. The 307 had a compression ratio of 8.5:1 from the factory, so you have not really gained anything here, only one other
