Hi all. Finaly have a decent shed to play in and one of the first things i need to do is get the trimatic connected to the 253 and back into the sandman to save room.. But as Ive never done this before (reattached a gearbox), can anyone direct me to a decent technical article on a forum somewhere cos I havent been able to find anything. Theres a bit on oldholden but mostly on the boxes, not on the process to follow. Just that im sure theres a few more tricks to it than slapping the torque convertor in place and doing up a few bolts... Cheers!

hainzy, make sure the torque convertor is locked in ..keep spinning it untill it drops into the oil pump drive..t/c should be scaping on the back of the bell housing if its all the way in..when bolting the box to the motor its hould go flush to the block and there should be a gap between the flexplate and the t/c that you can stick your fingers in...if you dont have this gap then the t/c is not locked all the way into the pump...do not use bolts to force the bell to the block if the it doesnt want to go flush...basically if you get the block and box to sit up flush to the block and the t/c has room to slide forward to the flexplate you are right..if oy dont understand me you can call..im sure you still have my mobile.. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

as above ,ive done stacks of these ,only the first one wrong,(727 chrysler) do EXACLY what Greg says ,NOTHING different it has been well explained. the 727 join up cost me heaps as i smashed the front pump into the box and it leaked fluid massively 1st and only time ive done that.you will know when the convertor locks in ,its about an inch in from the bellhousing face, easy job.
