A freind has a red motor with H1260 or hi260 stamped on the engine mount, no casting on the block.
Any idea as to what it could be???

soory red six, has what seems a torana or hr sump. Oil pick up pan to the back, and maybe a power glide box.

Hi,
the early 149 and 161 engines had their engine size then H and the sequential number, are you sure there are not more didgits or numbers?

Its a very early hi-comp 149 block. EH 149 blocks had no casting ID near the generator, they were left blank.

In the EH series, the engine size was not included in the engine number prefix, they just had Y, H or M plus the serial number.

Y = Lo-comp 149
H = Hi-comp 149
M = 179

The serial part of the engine number began at 1001, making this engine the 260th red motor ever made. It was probably built in mid-63 before the release of the EH.

Charlie.
You will find the date it was made behind the oil filter.
Something like H223.
