gday all about to do a diff swap in my prem just wondering what centre i should use. Its going behind a 355 big cam high comp etc through a stage 2 trimatic and will be used only on weekends for cruising and at the drags, will be using either 3.5 gears i have now or 3.7, ive already got a lsd 9 inch out of a ford bronco with 31 spline axles and bigger yoke and bearings, but lsd carier is cracked. what centre would you suggest? 1. Detroit locker 2. Detroit Tru-track locker 3. 'Lokka' (aussie branded one seems very cheap) 4. LSD 5. Full spool 6. Any other suggestions? Also any good brands of centres and axles that i should look out for. And lastly I was thinking of adding some oztracks tramp rods to help keep the rear end tight, any thoughts? Any help would be great thanks cheers

ive got a 3.89 ratio spooled diff in one of my cars with a 3500 stall...its fun if you want to drive it sideways but a right bitch otherwise...and it attracts attention if your turning at roundabouts or doin right or left turns...unwanted attention. im about to change it for a slippery for driveability.. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

Detroit Truetrac Lockers are exceptional. Have had one for about 8 years. Same as the day it went in, no clutches = no wear or change in characteristics. Spools are a crock on the street. Utility8 |

ive had a spool in my diff for about 6 years, sure i cant whip a u turn like a f1 car but driven sensibly i dont find it to a problem. Normal cornering at normal speeds, i dont even notice the spool (engine shakes the car around a bit anyway) I use real sticky tyres too so id imagine a typical street tread to be a lot less "harsh" and i have real soft front suspension so while i wont win a hillclimb in that car it drives nice enough for me and is a bunch more reliable, for the least amount of cost using the spool. I find the spool a natural throttle limiter, you soon work out how much wellie you can get away with while my experiences with lsd or lockers were a little less predictable lol. spool aint legal on the street and low speed parking is a problem, and if youve ever had to push a broken kingswood on your own and around a corner youll spew. 11.38@117 Edited by user Monday, 12 April 2010 6:08:49 AM(UTC)

thanks for the tips guys i have been leaning towards the tru-track, they seem to be a similar price to the LSD and the no wearing sounds pretty good. is there any tricks needed to set it up? i know how to do most settings like backlash bearing preload etc (have had 7 broken banjo centres to practice on!) price wise ive only found them around the $800+ mark does this sound right? where should i buy it from? im in central vic if that makes a difference. thanks agai for the tips cheers crocky

first of all, do a little more research into the exact functions of both the detroit locker and the detroit tru-trak locker as many(including myself)still seem to get them confused. then it depends which one you are going to buy and from whom you buy it from, strange and ford motorsport tru tracks are more expensive than some others, and you must decide on using your bronco centre with 31 spline before you order the parts. then keep in mind that you still have to build a the centre. if i was you, id keep it an LSD with a quality steel hat and raysbestos fictions and steels and a set of strange gears and 28". easy "Reputations are made and broken as soon as you enter or leave my shed.."
