How do you changeout the ignition barrel on a 76 HJ Statesman Deville, I have bought a new set of locks and ignition but dont know how to do the ignition. I appreciate any help. Thanks Louy000 Edited by user Wednesday, 14 April 2010 10:28:41 PM(UTC)

For memory you need to remove the steering wheel and i think the indicator assy. you should see a slot in the column casting midway along where the lock barrel is inserted.. insert a small sharp flat screwdriver into this slot. put key in lock and turn to clockwise one click then pull out and barrel should release.. If it not one click clockwise try another position its been a while.. it should come out easily .. good luck

Also, if the ignition barrel has never been removed you will need to break through a paper thin casting with the screwdriver in order to create the slot. If you look carefully you will see in the light where the thin rectangular slot is.
