All the firewalls are the same, so V8 and 186S have screws in the holes, someone may have fitted a 186 at some stage after someone removed the 307.

All HK were 307 powerglide but most were ratted for the running gear then scrapped. A few survived by fitting sixes. I have a 186 HT Brougham sitting in Tassy which would have originally been a 307 as fitted to the early HT until they ran out of powerplants.
Keep in mind that the Broughams were about as popular as a fart in a space suit in the early days. Bit like the highly prized P76.

Crusty, all HT Brougham (except possibly a handful of REALLY early ones) were 308s not 307, with Powerglide. You can pick the difference between a 308 and 307 fitted HT by a few things.
Pete, all Brougham should be banjo.

I dont believe there were any HT broughams with 307 chev at all. The 307 went into the other holden models. The HT brougham used the 308 to boast its new 308 motor. also you could not get a 308 in any other holden until all the 307 chev motors were used up.

There have been a couple of original HT 307 Broughams identified. Like a manual HT 307 a few snuck through.

I better have another look at it next time I go over Byron. I did some quick research on it a few years back when I first picked it up and was sure it came up as a 307 powerglide. I never gave it too much thought as I read that they got rid of the last of the 307s in the first HT run.

All Broughams were 5 litre. In HT you can tell between 307 and 308 in a Brougham or other car with factory power steering by the holes for the power steering cover under the drivers side subframe and also by the size of the threads for the accelerator cross shaft.
