Cheers, so to dig deeper, i have been told a while ago that the opel first came out in the torana, to lighten weight holden then threw them in the monaro hg ht hk, dont know if that is true.
When did the Aussie 4 speed come out and in what model????
((Ive blown up three opels, two in a hk g.t.s, and one in a hg g.t.s)
I ended up putting Aussies in them)

Wrong on both counts.

The Opel 4-speed was first made an option in the HR series in May 1967. It remained an option for HK/T/G series, with or without console. The non-console shift had a longer shifter lever. All HK/T/G Monaro GTS 6-cyl models had a Opel with a console stubby shifter, as standard. The LC Torana GTR had the Opel as an option (standard for GTR & XU1). These werent released until Oct 1969 (mid-HT). The Aussie 4-speed was first seen in production for HQ (& LC July 1971 onwards where it replaced the Opel). The last Opel boxes were fitted to late LC & LJ left-hand drive export versions.

As Byron has said, the Saginaw 4-speed was an option for HK/T/K behind the 6-cyl but these are ultra rare, except in utes & vans, where the Opel was not available.

Opel first appeared in HR with the 186S engine, then carried on through to HK, HT, HG and LC.

The aussie gearbox family appeared as a 3spd in HK as the all syncro 3spd, but the proper 4spd variant arrived with LC and HQ.
