Also there is the transfer of intellectual property, all the knowledge of the various companies is transferred to China to enable them to manufacture the goods, so the chinese then use it to improve their own products.

Some of these chinese manufacturers are using Australian companies as consultants for Engineering & design - they realise the experience & knowledge of the western world is required for success in our market.
A good example of this is the auto gearbox in the Great-Wall vehicles - its Australian designed, by the same people who assisted Ford turn their average 4 speed into a world-class 6 speed.
The Japs took 20 years to sort out how to build a car to match the Euros, and the Koreans took 10-15 years to do the same, so with the amount of "Global Expertise" that the Chinese are leaning on, theyll probably only need 3-5 years to reach the same level.

Your joking! The ford 4 speed auto has nothing to do with the falcon 6 speed auto at all. i do believe the 6 speed auto was fully designed by BMW.

Nope, not joking, I was told that by one of the engineers at NTC, and after seeing their design work, as well as a range of CAD drawings for new projects, and older ones, I have no reason to doubt him. The website for the company is: http://www.ntci.com.au/Check out their customer list here: http://www.ntci.com.au/CustomersCheers, Mick _______________________________________________________________ Judge a successful man not on how he treats his peers, but on how he treats those less fortunate. |

Soon Krudd will get us to talk Mandarin since we are now a province of China.
The sooner that this fool is voted out of office or stronger alternative means, the better we are, but then look at the alternative - Wayne Swan - he knows nothing about Finance????

I think we are talking about two different transmissions here.
The 6-speed auto that Ford has been fitting for the last few years in their top-line models is the ZF unit imported from Germany. This is very similar to the one used in late model Jags & BMWs.
The auto that commodorenut is referring to, is the new unit that is replacing the old BW/BTR/Ion 4-speeder that has been around since the 1990 EA II. Im not sure if this unit has actually been released into the Australian market yet, but I am happy to be corrected.
Dr Terry
