Questions, questions. All's I have is questions.

And a little backstory.

I figure this should probably go in that intro sectioney thing but I have questions as well... So it goes here.

First of all let me tell you about myself. I grew up with no mechanical influences -at all-. I learned what little I know from tinkering with my Kingswood and fixing my stuff ups.

Now the car:

HX Kingswood "Courtney"

about 8 months ago I bought a primed kingswood with a stuffed traumatic, a 202 on gas that was out of date, no battery and without seeing it. A big gamble? Not really too bad for $600.

Turns out I did alright, the transmission (for some reason... I still don't understand) decided it wasn't going to work until I put fluid in and for $2000 I got it properly roadworthied, replaced brakes that were still okay, did things I didn't -need- to do but were worth doing anyway. I might post the list up later if it's worth bothering about but I don't think so.

2 months later she's registered, if you're about the eastern suburbs it's hard to miss the faded grey primer that's been hacked away with fine wet&dry to reveal some of the bonnet's gold.

What's happened since then? The Traumatic actually crapped out, expected it but was a little disappointed. Got a second hander from an HQ and had it fitted for pretty cheep and now that's going strong. The gas control switch crapped out and I've since wired a new one in, found a rather distinct and apparent leak in the tank and have fitted a brand new alternator (it doesn't look right... All shiny against the old, grease covered 202).

What do I intend to do with it?

It's my daily driver, it was my first project car and I want to hold onto it for another 2 years at least but to do that I need to know and do a few things.

I want to put a 253 into it and clean up the body so it looks... "Nice"

I don't want to break land speed records, don't want girls (or guys for that matter) wetting themselves when I go past due to looks or evacuating bowels due to noise. I want a decent daily driver to cruise in without it struggling like a 12 year old fat kid climbing hills on his bmx.

Questions:

Know a decent 253 about? Know anyone decent who'll do the swap over or teach me how to do it?

If I get the 253 and want it on gas is there anything I can use from my previous system?

I know that you can only get the gas rebate once but how can I tell if it's been claimed? The car was converted 15+ years ago.

What are my options for transmissions? A manual would be nice, but anything that gets away from the traumatic that'll keep the cost down would be nice.

What sort of work is involved in burning my bench seat and putting something nice to sit in? Again, recommended seats for comfort...able price?

Your best bet would be to buy another rusty HX-WB with a 253 and trimatic in it and swap it over. If you get a sedan or wagon you can use it's Salisbury diff too. Straight bolt in. You should be able to re-use the LPG tank, lines etc but the converter and mixer may be too old and are best replaced with a modern converter and new-gen mixer. If you intend keeping gas don't rule out a 308 either.

Aye that was my first thought but with the 308 they're a little harder to find and 253's are -everywhere- and going for nothing. Also will seats from something like a VS dump in there easily? From what I assume it's just bolt in?

I have a complete 253 and trimatic sitting on the trailer to take to Geelong swap tomorrow.

Ready to bolt in to a K-T-G and run. You may need to scrounge a V8 wiring loom. Byron would know more on that one.

$475.00 and I can even deliver it to you this weekend. I'm in Bayswater

You can get me on 0418372270

PS; grab me early as I will be setting up at the swap from 6am

Ha... I didn't know what you meant there for a minute wreck. I get it now.

Anyone else doing Geelong tomorrow? I've never been but I hear it's a good one.

If I go from another wreck I think I'll learn the most. Probably the way I'll go I think. Cheers for the offer, mate. You must be around the corner, I'm on the corner of dorset and eastfield.
