Has anybody got any info on an LH Torana wiper motor in regards to internals.Have just put sons wiper motor back together after getting it chromed. The wiper motor now dos'nt turn off.Suspect that the wiper motor is trying to return to its off position but can't find it so it continues to run. I think parts must be in a certain location when rebuilding wiper motor.

Fitzi, Could be as simple as needing an external earth for the parking cam circuit. Not sure on this model but some makes have an earth strap under one of the mounting screws. Try a jumper lead from the wiper body to battery earth before looking to much further. Good luck Oily

Have just pulled apart two wiper motors trying to fix a returning problem myself. One was an HJ and one an HZ. In the HJ (which looked similar to an HQ in that the washer was built into the cover of the wiper mechanism) there was a switch which sat in a groove on the underside of the big white gear with the shaft through to the wipers when at rest. When the wipers are on, the switch is held on by the gear, and then drops into the groove to shut off. (Have a look at shaft side of big white gear). The HZ (with flat cover) had a completely different method. There were three contact patches on the shaft side of the white gear, with three corresponding pickups in the body. When all three are in contact, the wipers stop. Buggered if I could figure out how or why, but I cleaned all of the contacts, made sure the shaft was mounted fully to bring the contacts and pickups together and then lightly greased the cover of the motor.
That seemed to work beautifully (so far).
This all can be checked with the motor on the car. Undo the nut which holds the wiper arm to the end of the motor shaft (inside the cowl panel). Remove the cover from the wiper motor (four small screws, including (as mentioned) the earthing strap. Once the cover is off, the white gear can be removed by gently tapping on the end of the shaft in the cowl area, and easing the gear and shaft out.
From there, you can look at the underside of the big gear and the inside of the motor to see what should be happening when the wipers are running and what should happen to turn it off.
