So next week I'm travelling over to Melbourne with the missis for a week or so to visit some friends. While over there I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to pick up a few bits for the upcomming restoration (certain repo stuff is overpriced in NZ). Am after suggested car orientated places/shops to go so I can avoiding being dragged around dress shops by the other half. Primiarily after sets of rubbers/badges/suspension kits etc but would pick up anything worth my while, where is worth making the trip???

Come on, help a kiwi out...

Mate, hop on a plane to Newcastle airport (or Sydney, not much further by hire car) for about $39 each way, and go and see Greg at Classicozwreck. He will have plenty of Statesman stuff for you, including some NOS. Email him first through this site though. With any luck most of it will post back home easily, by yourself whilst you are here!

It's a bugger I didn't find the forum this time a year ago since I had a visit to Newcastle and definately would have made a visit to classicozwreck. Though I do know a bloke who lives up the Hunter so if push came to shove.... It's highly likely I'll be back to Sydney in the next 12 months anyway. Is the 'kingswood country' shop in Melbourne any good?

P.S What the hell is there to do in Melbourne? Last time I was there it was work related so didn't really have a look around.

Reece has good stuff. Lots of aussie 4spd stuff.

HEAPS to do in Melbourne. I'll be there for a few days in June. Itinery (no car needed, only short tram rides) in no particular order:

Jersey Boys
Breakfast in Lygon St
Melbourne Zoo
AFL match at the MCG
ANZ Championship Netball at Hisense Arena
Melbourne Storm game
Lunch in Lygon Street
Shopping (the Mrs' insistence) - Factory outlets probably - Chapel road?
Gold class cinemas (heaps better than George St Sydney Gold class)
Breakfast in St Kilda
If time permits, Titanic relics exhibit

Last year we did similar but involved:

Pink at Rod Laver Arena
Melbourne Jail visit
Wicked
First State of Origin match

Worked around the corner from Reece for years and in all those years i have never been able to buy something from him due to his attitude . He just peddles on rare spares stuff and the like , if you walked in there you have to know what you want rather than have a look around and have a sticky . He does not have good used stuff like he used to .
You can buy his stuff out of any catalogue.
I would go see Dave at Holbusters , he has heaps of rare stuff still (NOS and used) he is friendly and will probably let you have a poke around .
Go to Rare Spares for your new stuff as they stock most of the new stuff you could ever want, and the good thing is they are near the city/airport and each other . Reece is my side of town .
If you do go to see Kingswood Country , go and see Chris and Barry around the corner at Dinkum Auto Salvage ,much more friendly and they are great blokes and will make you feel most welcome with their charismatic ways and vintage music on the radio playing !

When i came to Brotown , the guy at Rare Spares their in Christchurch was very friendly and showed me around , he even gave me a big box of old seat belts for free which i have emailed him so i can send some parts in return which he has not taken up the offer of as yet .
Melbourne is a great place you will like, and i think Byron Nailed many of the good places if you are staying around the city .

And I thought there would be days I would have nothing to do....

Regarding parts I only really NEED a dozen or so items but considering the ability to shop around all these places makes me think I might grad a few more desirable bits. I know a few guys in our Holden Club who will happily take them off my hands.

Staying out with friends near the Albert hospital but have to make a trip to the uni so it shouldnt be hard to visit all of them via tram...

We have a Rares at Chch and Craig and the guys there are VERY helpful, already spent a bit there (mostly on s/h parts) since its pretty much the only place in the south island you can reliably get parts from.

Dont worry Frank Vanilla let the Blue Eye Mafia in there also ?
I get in fine as i told them i was Meatloafs brother !

Geez Red Simons looks like he could have been dragged out of the "wrong " side of Smith Street looking at him there . Before my time 1984 Frank , but very amusing words .
