Hi,

Can someone tell me please, what is the date for a big nut stamped 21E5A?

I think 21E means 21 May? But what does the 5A mean?

Hi David,
That stamp means the cylinder was assembled on May 21 1975 in the afternoon. The 'P' means PM.
Regards Andy.

Oops! Yeah, I meant 'A'=AM, but typed the opposite!
So it was built in the morning NOT afternoon....

Ok, I have 7B8A (8th Feb 1968 AM) on my HG. Does this mean that it has been replaced at some stage?

If so what what date range should i be lo9oking at? Ie did a 7/70 get fitted with late 69 stuff?

7B8A indicates Feb 7 1978 AM. I was under the impression that HK/T nuts weren't stamped with the A or P. What does it look like? Does the lid have 2 round impressions above each reservoir?(HK/T/G type) Or does the lid have a peaked ridge along the centre, kind of like a house roof?(HZ type)
Either way, a 7/70 car would have a cylinder stamped up to 8 weeks prior to build date. This is the norm, although there are always exceptions. Late 69 could be a tad early though.
Regards Andy.

Hey John

It might be '78.

I think that rectangular shape is post '71.

HK-G is more oval shape.

Could be wrong....

Cheers

Correct Jeremy, that cylinder of John's is the HQ-HJ style.

Over the counter Replacement HK HT HG Master cyls later on were the Square top type with the correct shallow rear piston recess which only the HKTG used (and maybe the Toranas) , where as HQ onwards have the deeper rear piston recess.
My guess John its been to a brake place where they have pulled heaps of them apart in one go and the Front nuts have all got swapped to differnet bodies , i have seen it heaps of times on these .
As a proper 1978 nut has "frt wheel disc" and the date for the really large big nut master cyls used in LX /HZ era .
So what you have is a HQ style master cyl/HKTG Replacement body , with HKTG rear piston and a HK era Front Nut .
What you need is my mid 1970 Dated Restored one i have here , but you have to get a bank loan to buy . To throw in an even curlier one , HT HG 350 Manual cars used a deeper resevoir body and different lid bail also . Good luck finding one , but a standard one will be fine .

cheers James
Hope that helps .

geeesussss james, you blokes have real high opinions of yourselves especially with big statements like that, then finishing it off with hope that helps..helps what?? your over inflated opinion of yourself????? what are you a world class pioneering plastic surgeon that specialises in make overs?? its not a world beating one of 3 hand built cars james, its a production line, fault ridden, mass produced car built for a working class man with a beer in one hand and a smoke in the other, no use trying to re-invent the wheel as you all are trying to do.
you blokes have taken all the fun and enjoyment out of these cars, credit where credit is due by all means, but come on james, get back to reality
