We want to replace the 17'' mags and tyres on our 2002 VX Commodore series 2 Acclaim and replace them with 15'' mags and tyres but we are finding it difficult to fine manufactures that make a Cragar SS type mag for the VX. I tried Cragar but for the early Holdens yes but not for the Commodores and we only want this kind of look and am hoping someone out there can asist.

I'm told the standard steel rims fit fine.

Standard steel rims are 15", and they do fit fine over the front brakes. Rears have even more clearance.

What will cause you problems are 2 things:

1. Offset, or backspacing (or both). Commodores tuck their wheels well under the guards, with a large positive offset, resulting in a large backspacing. The cars these wheels are generally designed for have a very small positive offset, neutral offset, or a negative offset - placing the wheel further out in relation to the hub, which will cause issues not only for guard clearance, but throw your suspension geometry well out of whack, resulting in poor handling.

2. Stud pattern PCD - commodores are 5x120mm, and most of these wheels fit HQ-WB / chev pattern (4.75" x 5 = 120.65mm PCD). Don't be tempted to run them - they will fit on, but the studs will be stressed due to the tapered nuts pulling them in towards the centre when tightened up.

Cheers,

Mick

VU steel rims don't quite have the same look as Cragars or Dragways.
