Gday all Am in the process of cleaning up the chassis, just wondering the best way to go about it. Earlier on I started with a wire wheel and this came up pretty good, But talking to someone the other day they suggested acid dipping, Has any one done this before, if so whats it worth and how was the result? any info would be great. cheers

I thought of blasting it but wanted something to treat any rust there is inside the chassis as well any ideas? Were either of these in WA by any chance?

Acid dipping will leave deposits of acid inside seams and inside rails, and this will accelerate corrosion later. If it is old or rare - Cut it! http://www.ehlimo.com.au/ |

i would not acid dip, unless you can dip the rails in a giant bucket of paint to make sure inside is painted as well, sandblast repaint, when car complete may some sort of rust treatment inside the chassis, that stuff is pretty thick i dont think i would rust in a hurry unless you benn down the beach? pete.

sand blasting (actually garnet) is fairly quick and gets all the rust off, and can get into the cracks and crevices you can't get into otherwise. you can buy a blast gun at Super cheap for 30 or 40 bucks will do the job and a 16cfm compressor for around $500, then you can use the compressor for other stuff. make sure you have proper head cover and eye protection and preferably respirator, I have disposable overalls which cover head to foot with a hood and cost only a few bucks, keeps all the grit out of my clothing.

forgot to mention, spend at least 2 hours cleanibng all the sand out after or it provides a place to rust.
