Byron, you're probably aware of this but in case you're not.... early HJ with Gazelle trim had a Tan coloured steering column, indicator stalk (steering wheel and column gear shift lever).... Early HJ with Chamois/Covert trim had a Covert coloured steering column, indicator stalk (steering wheel and column gear shift lever)... All other trim codes had Black for these items.

I found this in the trim colour charts when I went looking as to why my base model 5/75 HJ Holden panelvan had a tan coloured steering wheel, steering column, column gear shift lever and indicator stalk. I had always thought it had Tan trim but it must have been Gazelle.

Not quite. HJ HOLDEN didn't get Gazelle trim, it was called Fawn. Gazelle was the Kingswood name. Same situation as Black vs Slate Black, Beige vs Chamois etc. Fawn HJ got Tan column, indicator etc. But Gazelle got a black turn signal lever for some reason. It's only the later HJ Beige and Fawn that got black indicator sticks, early had trim colours. I've recently finished this part of the book so it's all still in my head (I think!).

We've just bought a V8 4spd hz ute and it has so many extras that we are unsure what it is. I don't believe that it's a Sandman because the tyre placard and model number don't match a Sandman.

Here are the basic numbers on it:
Model: HZ8WN80
BODY: 460244-A
TRIM: 1189-63C
Paint: 568-10987

L32-M20-GV4

Tyre Placard: 9946869
GVM: 2200
Seat capacity: 2
GHZ: 65440A

VIN: 8N80RJL460244Z

The reason that we are so unsure is because of all the extra's that the ute has. It's got a prem front, GTS dash, alarm system, integrated aircon (not after market). And with the seat capacity of 2 rather than 3 it just seems like a very unusual combination.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We don't really care whether its a Sandman or not because it's a great ute but we are more just interested in the somewhat unique combination of features! It seems like someone ordered all Sandman features on a kingswood ute...

Cheers,

Marcus

Hi Marcus

It appears to be a Kingswood ute optioned with 253 V8, 4-sp, buckets, a/cond & GTS instruments. Not an uncommon list in HZ days. The alarm & Prem front weren't factory options.
