Hi guys,

Other than the obvious 179, HP, 149 of the EH era which has been covered many time before, is there any other holden 6 blocks that didn't have their capacity cast into the side? Not counting the grey motor.

I don't think there are any other 6cyl, i'm pretty sure 161 had its capacity on the side.

As for V8:

Mid VR onwards Holden V8, as it was used for both 304 and 350ci engines. I just bought one this morning!

Also 308 in Brougham at HT release had HP on the side, but it changed to 308 not long after 308 was made available across the HT range

Early 161 have no marking. During HK the 161 arrived on the side of the block.

Hello,
I have a red six here that does not have it's size marked.
This is likely to be a WA engine only.
My cousin owned a engine recon shop and he told me that he used to get HP blocks and grind off the HP and machine off the engine number and restamp it 186F!

The reason he did this was because past about 040 over bore it ceased to have the thicker cylinder bores that made it a HP engine and it then became a 186.

I was told that this was all above board and agreed to by the WA licencing Authority.

My son transferred a car with a 186F prefix to his name and never had a problem.

From what I have been able to find out several engine sizes had a F prefix as a change over thing, but 186 did not apparently, until my cousin made the arrangement.
Not a really a Holden prefix, but thought it might be interesting to the readers.

Mike
