gday carl, the best & sure way to tell if its a genuine GT is to call ford australia on 13 36 73 and quote the numbers you have. hope this helps

http://www.fomoco.com.au/ID.htmlThis might help a bit. Still won't mean the car is genuine if the numbers match. Next step is to make sure it's not a rebody. Support female jelly wrestling. We can stop men going to war and solve world hunger all at the same time.

Look for jg33 for a 4 door as the first four prefixes on the tags but as stated does not confirm if its a rebody also check radiator supprt is a v8 and 2 exhaust hangers at the rear near springs these are a couple of things but only confirms it is at least a v8 unless these have been changed Be very carefull there are some good rebodies out there

The skinny id plate on the front of the radiator support is fine for a pre compliance plater 1969 XW & 18938 denotes a 1969 Falcon GT.
There are two different types of radiator support panel for an XY the 6 cylinder/302 type which has a smaller hole for the smaller radiator that mounts by it's sides and the 351 radiator support panel with a bigger hole for the 351 radiator which mounts at the top and bottom trouble is that it's not that hard to neatly cut a 351 panel from the more common smaller radiator type.
You could only get the 351 in an "XW" two ways buy a GT Falcon or buy a ZC Fairlane with 351 no other variants of that model had the 351 as an option officially (some special orders may exist).
A good way to check that it's not a rebody besides what has been mentioned above is to look in places that someone would not necessarily think to paint during a respray such as under the carpet or even maybe the parcel tray. This would not tell you much if the donor body was a factory silver car though.
Factory 351 cars had a larger fuel line from the tank that ran along the inside of the passenger side sill and entered the engine bay in front of the suspension tower whereas the 6 cylinder and 302 cars had a smaller fuel line that ran along the transmission tunnel and entered the back of the engine bay however from memory all cars had the hole in front of the shock tower for the 351 fuel line. Of course that change is also a bolt in so easy to copy.
