The weird and sometimes frustrating thing about these cars is that there is always an exception to whatever the line of thought might be. Here is a photo of a HK that we bought new, it was an early Pagewood one with the notch, it had a V roof (can't spell vinyl) and as Byron said was blank in the TOP slot on the big tag. Probably built during the changeover period.

This photo was taken by the next owner after he'd put a 350 in.

The tag in the firewall means it was built before 8/68.

The inner guard change was some time in August. (I had an August built HK with tag on top but early inner guard.

TOP only has Vinyl roof indicated from Melbourne and Brisbane plants.

Broughams were optional with painted roof.

there were 3 diferent rh inner skirts for hk subframe
first one (dec jan) was like yours but didnt have the dent near brake booster.
2nd one (feb - may approx) was like yours with that dent to allow for in line booster that came on HTs
then 3rd one added the notch for a better crumble zone impact
then theres actually 3 more different ones for hg! (but wont go there now)
some states didnt have vinyl stamped (adelaide)
for dates, check steering box code. big nut if original m/cyl, & outrigger on front of K frame on passenger side.& column plate. if its unmollestered, all these will be within coupla weeks.

any more info ? phone dirty davo 0412109239 or leave message

what about the painted pinstripe?

i have heard that the stripe was painted in a sort of liquid gold, similar to that on the silly commemorative plates that you buy from franklin mint etc.

i have a HG Bro with no vinyl roof, factory like that, was all white. has the barest hint of the original stripe, and was wondering how i could replicate that?

wheel the old girl down to franklin mint?

It's not pinstriped now but there's a faint outline of a stripe. It can't be a nomal glued pinstripe so I was scratching my head about it too.
