I've picked up another Brougham. It's an HK and there's some differences to my other HK's

I can't find a date on it
The plate is on the firewall rather than the top
The inner wheel arch does'nt have the cutout on the drivers side (like a duplicate of the battery tray location)
The last owner said he took off the vinyl roof (gave me the mouldings) but there is nothing on the plate after "TOP"

Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like an early one if the big tag is on the firewall pre Jun 68, the guru's will know.

The date will be on the steering column in white paint just out of the firewall and there will be a date on the steering box as well, provided it is still the original column & box.

Dunno about the inner guard, perhaps the early ones didn't have that notch.

My first HK Prem had a vinyl top and it was also blank on the big tag, maybe they only put a paint code there or the top was fitted by the dealer.

I believe all broughams had a vinyl top ,It would only have a V after top if someone had optioned it on a lesser model.

Wasn't 100% sure that all Broughams had the vinyl roof, the more I think about it the more I agree with Cloudy.

The top on my old Prem was the type that went inside the screen rubbers, would that have made it factory fitted?

Just checked the boot. There's nothing in there other than some chain, three old buckets filled with concrete, afew spent shotgun shells and a dark brown stain over the floor. No hint of anything sinister.

I'll check the column tomorrow and see if I can spot a year on it.

Maybe the Broughams could have the vinyl roof optioned out as I have 2 with no vinyl and definately no ground down body pins.

Thanks guys

Good to see another one saved.

I have a pic of a gold Bro with white/off white vinyl. It's the only gold one I've seen with any other colour than black. I haven't seen silver with white until now.

The plot thickens on the inner guard notch, I have lot's of engine HK engine bay photo's and none without the notch.

My HK Prem is a March '68 Brissy HK and doesn't have a notch, but it's engine bay was smoothed and detailed before I bought it, so still dunno.

LOL you do give us a laugh.

Hey wreck. I was worried about the vinal on the roof, but now I've checked the vynal on the door trims and that vinil will need to be replaced too. It seems to be suffereng some sort of vinyrial disease. Do you know where to buy automotive vinel?

In all seriousness, anyone know a decent upholsterer?

This is the first I've seen without it. My guess is the original press was was different for left to right and it may have made sense to make carbon copy left and right dies when the first lot got worn. Someone here may be able to shed some light on it?

All early HK had the BODY tag on the firewall. It moved not long after Monaro and Brougham release. Same with RH battery notch.
TOP would only be populated if it was painted, although one plant (Dandenong I think) tells you if it had a vinyl roof.
