same price as any dirty old 202 unless the date code is absolutely correct for a guy with a gtr..then its a bit more than dirty old 202 prices.. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

Previously I received advice from a forum expert along these lines:
If a GTR owner wants a JL motor, they would need to get a block with the right production date. They might be prepared to pay good money ($2000???). On the other hand, the NL block (The NASCO replacement block) would not need to match the car's production date (provided it was dated later than the car) because it is a genuine replacement motor.
Stick it on ebay and find out.

It doesn't even have to be dated later than the car. A replacement engine could sit around for a long time, and go into a car built later than the engine. This is the beauty of a Nasco/GMP&A replacement engine's block. Say you have a 1973 GTR. An NL block made in 1972 could be OK for it. So could one cast in 1979.
NL isn't just for a GTR either. It is also correct for a LH-LX 6cyl SL/R. Also correct for any car originally fitted with an FL, GL, HL, JL, QL, 11QL, VL (red only), ZL, XQL or XZL but no-one would probably pay reasonable $ for an NL for any of these (unless they were an aforementioned GTR or SL/R or maybe at a stretch a HQ-HX 202 Sandman) - hence Greg's comment!
David, if you don't have the original engine for the car, it doesn't matter if the JL block obtained is the right production date or not - it's still not a matching numbers car, so you might as well use any JL block. But as you say an NL is even better!

Hi,
I have a replacement 186 here with a WA police number on it ( it is not a restamp ) dated M 8 9, what do you think it might be worth?
As far as I can work out so far it would be a replacement for 186A, 186P, 186K, 186S and 186X, CK 186 LC XU-1 engines, might have missed a couple like the low compression models.
This block has the second block change where the LHS outrigger web is filled in, some did not have this untill after 1970.

Ask any LC XU-1 owner that doesn't have their original engine. Might be perfect for them, and see how much they'll pay!

the number is not something I am prepared to put on this site and have coppied onto another block,
I will just say it has a W at the front of the number and a P after the number,
